The article credits the elimination and labeling of trans fat as one reason, along with the reduction of teen smoking and the reduced exposure to second-hand smoke. Unfortunately, the study used the old LDL marker as a guideline, which doesn't give a good indication of cardiac risk. However, the combination of lower triglycerides and lower LDL suggests that the trans fat bans and reduced smoking is working. Now if we can only get the federal government to stop banning healthy food and stop subsidizing unhealthy food then we might make some better progress.
