House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa plans to sue Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday for refusing to provide documents related to the "Fast and Furious" gun-smuggling operation.

"The committee expects to file the civil contempt suit against the attorney general Monday," a Republican source said. The suit will be filed in the federal district court for the District of Columbia.

The action is the latest escalation in the dispute between House Republicans and the Justice Department over the documents, which relate to a botched gun-smuggling operation.

On June 28, the House voted to hold Holder in contempt of Congress and authorized the Oversight panel to bring suit to enforce its rights.

This is long over due. He had every opportunity to cooperate and refused to do so.

The elephant hath labored mightily and delivered unto us a mouse. Filing a civil suit in federal district court is pretty much an acknowledgment that the criminal contempt charges fizzled completely. It is more political theater, but on a stage with no audience.

Ummmmm....this IS the formal CRIMINAL Contempt Charge

The other was just a vote to hold Holder in Contempt of Congress...without any CRIMINAL Contempt Charges.

Now there WILL be CRIMINAL Contempt Charges.

He's being SUED--he's not being charged with squat. Anyone can file a lawsuit for just about any reason and sue someone--that's a civil case. Only a prosecutor can charge someone with a crime, based on evidence, and that hasn't happened.

Once again, you didn't read your own link, you don't know what you're talking about, people who DO understand try to explain it to you logically and calmly, and you just keep denying it and saying the same ridiculous stuff over and over.

There are no criminal charges--this is civil. Read your article.

Yes. And this is no "charge" in the sense of a criminal charge by a DA. It's an election year and opposing parties do things like this. Though, the extremists in Congress (and out) have little else to talk about so they grab at straws. The Congressman leading this "charge" ought to be more concerned about law enforcement delving into his private life and suggestions that what he may be hiding could land him in jail.

Getting criminals like Holder out of our government is an important thing.

Then go after him with criminal charges, not civil....civil is like saying "I don't like you and I want that to be pointed out in court." Also known as a waste of money.

LOL......300 Mexican citizens and two US Agents were MURDERED.

That is meaningless to you?

But Democrats going on a witch hunt over the name of a desk worker at the CIA who was already known to be working at the CIA from a magazine she appeared in being "outed" IS important stuff?
