The spread of Catholicism to the Americas resulted in the elimination of pre-existing civilizations. Those who stood in the way of this expansion were destroyed. Anyone still standing would be either the invader or the convert. So when this was stated:

I meant that naturally (most of) the Panamanians would appreciate it - they are the descendents of the original invaders and/or the converted.
[it is what it is - I'm just pointing out a basic fact that can be found in any history book]
Is there some reason we should care? Like maybe panama could feed it's poor longer and better if they spent the money for these social things.... For all I know panama is crankin out the big bucks and can afford anything they want... But the last i heard was the canal was a expensive crumbling back water and needed a lot of work.
Yes. In any event, I'm not suggesting that the pre-existing civilization was superior to the Catholic Church nor am I significantly concerned that both have blood on their hands.
[but that's beside the point of my response to your statement]
We should sue the French for not building the Statue of Liberty taller. Is that what you are implying or have you missed the fact that the OP was talking about that statue in comparison to the Panamanian one?
The opening poster is talking about a "taller" statue of the virgin mary. I simply stated that if you build one thing thats really tall, someone else will build a bigger one later.
I have no idea what you're talking about in your post.
