The Trans-Am plant here stood vacant for nearly 30 years, before finally being torn down and there is still nothing there, so don't blame banks until you fully understand the exact circumstances.
Critically...

You missed the point and I fully understand the exact circumstances, thank you very much. I was replying to a poster (maybe even you) who claimed someone would have bought up all the assets of GM if they'd gone through a normal bankruptcy and I was giving an example to back up another poster who said that didn't happen with the assets GM did shed. The plant I was talking about was one of the top rated plants in the country for efficiency, skill levels of employees and advanced equipment. If the country had not been in a full blown financial crisis another company would have bought that plant. That is the point you miss or ignore. If the 17 plants that were shed during the government structured bankruptcy didn't sell in the past few years what makes you think someone would have been able to come up with enough money to up the entire GM chain of plants?
So we're supposed to sit here and wait for the American auto industry, which is currently thriving, to fail?
If you have the patience to do that, then you certainly have the patience to wait and see all of the savings we'll get as a result of Obamacare, right?

unless people stop buying cars, the auto industry wont cease to exist
And dont even bring up Obamacare "savings" because the cost is currently estimated at $2.5TRILLION and counting..
Why is it those who dont seem to know what their talking about, always seem to vote Democratic?

Like I said before, barring any dramatic change in the economy which affects the american consumer to buy an new automobile, the automobile industry...
Surely you're just trolling? The "Big 3" US automakers are Chrysler, Ford and GM.
They originated in America but they have PLENTY of international components to them.
