How would you handle the situation in the Muslim world?

It's physically impossible to kill 2 billion Muslims.

It's politically impossible to just withdraw from the Middle East entirely -- then the protesters would think they'd won.

It's militarily impossible to lob a few nukes at random Middle East cities without suffering massive fallout -- both literally and metaphorically.

So what would YOU do if you were President? (And don't cop out by saying that if you were President, none of this would be happening. If McCain had won in 2008, it is extremely likely that this would be happening -- or that it would have happened three years ago.)

Well?

Nice try, but you might as well walk into a first grade class and ask the students to design an office building.

Oh, some students will, with a crayon, draw a crude outline of a 'house' with the yellow Sun above and a house-sized dog next to the house, and submit it for approval, but reasonable people will consider the effort a failure.

Anyway, on to the houses:

1. On 9/11, you beef up security

2. If there was any warning 48 hours prior, you issue alerts.

They didnt do either.

I would start pulling out our troops from the Middle East. There is nothing in America's interest there and they can't handle freedom (good article on CNN.com about that from Ed Husain about this): Arab Spring nations don't yet grasp freedom of dissent - CNN.com - so we need to quit trying to ram it down their throats. If oil is the interest - we have lots of it here and we just need to tap into it. They have nothing but sand and insanity to offer the world. They can have it. Do not give them any aid (financial or otherwise). When they come out of the 14th century, then we can start with diplomacy.

Let's see, first I would not support terrorist organizations in their efforts to take over a country (al Qaida in Libya and Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt). Next, I would attend intelligence briefings (instead of going to Vegas or David Letterman). Third, when a report of a potential attack on US Embassies in Muslim nations will occur on 9/11, I'd order the embassies evacuated out of the nation. Even if none of those things weren't done (which they weren't), after the attacks I'd cancel appointments and return to Washington to meet with staff, especially secretary of defense, secretary of state, and the head of the CIA.

WHY? Who gives a rat's ass what the protestors think? We should pull out of the entire region and take our check book with us. Let them fend for theselves.

Well?

The reaction to and the rise of anti-Americanism is a result of decades long "game" our US government (specifically those which were headed by a Republican) played. Supporting dictators and openly praising tyrants and using them as boy toys to do the US government and CIAs bidding is the reason we see such an explosive amount of violence in the Middle East.

Perhaps had we learned to stay out of other people's affairs and focused on the betterment of this country, things would be different.

Imagine what the world would be like had we not orchestrated the 1953 Operation Ajax, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld had not lobbied to give Iran (under the Shah) civilian nuclear technology (by which the two profited immensely), supported Hosni Mubarak and turning a blind eye to his atrocities, etc etc etc

Go ahead, label me as a closeted Communist/Marxist/Socialist. Fact of the matter is that I am a conservative and proud of it and the GOP most certainly DOES NOT represent me or my conservative values.

Totally agree. When they can act like civilized people and recognize the world doesn't revolve around their feelings then we'll come back to the table and make deals.

At this point I don't think anything short of a public stoning to death of this movie guy will appease them.

Lets be honest, there is little Obama could have done to stop what took place, but with that being said, do you think this will stop Obama from using the only qualification he has for re-election, that Bin Laden is dead?

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he didnt hear warnings in advance, but maybe he needs to stop trying to sell the public on how he changed world perceptions of america.
