The USA gives a large amount of foreign aid to Egypt (similar to Israel). Please tell what has Egypt done for the USA that warrants the USA giving them this aid besides the fact the USA is obligated under the Egypt-Israel peace treaty to give them financial aid?
This thread is going to get a tiny fraction of the posts of the Israel one, despite the fact that the magnitudes of aid are in the same ballpark (Egypt gets about 2/3 as much) because the people who are the most vocally against* the aid to Israel don't actually care so much about the money..........
* I am talking about the constantly and strongly anti-Israel regardless of issue types, not the totally legit "yeah we shouldn't be giving other countries money when our economy is weak itself" folk, you know the difference and you know what's motivating the former quite often...........

Actuall,y Egypt has been essential at bringing dialog about Israel to the Middle east. They are the moderates in the area and it helps us to have them as such...If we want to continue having influence in the area.
Egypt has been a long time neutral partner in the ME and has had a close relationship with Isreal. They have been active in the peace negotiations between Isreal and the Palestineans, and have worked towards peace in the region. Arab spring came about not because of the relationship with Isreal but because of the suppression of rights for it's own people.
It is hard to say whether or not they are the same nation now under a new leadership. That is something they will have to prove. Foreign aid is never removed overnight, and if it turns out that they are not friends of the US, then it will be looked at. Why not worry about aid to Pakistan, who has proven that they do not support the US?
