Are any of you aware of the extent of the problem we have as a country? I've read books on it, written by people on both sides of the coin, read news articles on it, and more. I can't read any more, this issue troubles me. The freebie culture exists on every level of our society and even outside of it.

For instance, California and Texas are the country's two main powerhouses. Nearly 20% of the population of this country lives in one of those two states and the two states combined generate a majority of this country's income - in people, in companies, in just about everything. California and Texas are treated like millionaires: they pay their "fair share" so that smaller states can stay afloat. For instance, while both Texas and California have abysmal infrastructure (neither has any major light rail anywhere, and both love toll roads) those two states are happily funding Utah's infrastructure - FrontRunner (a brand new version of Metrolink!) Trax, and all those buses. Both states funded the Olympics in Utah. Both states fund the casinos in Las Vegas - and I'm talking in addition to Texans and Californians blowing money in Vegas. Both states funded City Creek in Utah. They fund the corn in Iowa. California and Texas are paying more in taxes than they ever see in return, so that they can fund the south, the smaller western states, bankrupt Detroit, and everything else. If you live in a state that is not California or Texas, chances are you are leeching off of the people of California and Texas. And I'm just getting started here.

One book I read by a conservative stated that tax money goes to keep poor and rich people alike in dwellings built in areas nearly 100% likely to flood. Cited examples included much of New Orleans and the Florida Keys. People get money from Uncle Sugar because they live there - and when the house goes kaput due to the weather, they get even more money. I also recently read that the man made islands around Newport Beach will also be covered by Uncle Sugar. Likewise with many of the gulf-area towns in Texas. Thanks to Uncle Sugar, you can build anything anywhere, and Uncle Sugar will pay for it when your house, mansion, hospital, church, or grocery store goes kaput because you literally built it on sand.

But wait! It gets even better! Almost every single major industry in this country is funded by Uncle Sugar. The casinos in Vegas are propped up by Uncle Sugar. The ski resorts in Utah. Hollywood. Disneyland and Disneyworld. Knott's Berry Farm. A sizeable chunk of all the malls in this country. All funded by Uncle Sugar. Your taxes paid Lindsay Lohan's salary on her last film. You more than likely bought Kim Khardishan's newest Birkin. Business figured out long ago that if you don't have Uncle Sugar on your side Uncle Sugar will get you good. So everyone loves Uncle Sugar. Uncle Sugar is even managing Wall Street. Some of your tax money probably went to your neighbor's new iPhone. Your taxes are hard at work building Google's maps. Your taxes paid for Cosmopolitan magazine to be published and sold for $3.99. You probably even paid for a new Hindu temple in NYC. Even the Mormons have no problem with Uncle Sugar: they use Uncle Sugar to get the IRS to leave them alone. A power plant in Alabama is built...with taxpayer money...so the corporation pays nothing to build it. But it will provide 2,000 jobs so its all good, right? There goes Uncle Sugar again...but hey, there are now 2,000 brand new jobs!

But wait...I'm still going here! Even better yet, we as a country have deals that state we must defend certain countries from bad people! Countries like England! We also have deals that state that we must provide aid to countries....even countries that hate us! But hey, we're Uncle Sugar, and we're here to save the day! God Bless the USA, throwing money at foreign countries! They love us the same reason that one woman will vote for Obama because he gave her a free iPhone! So when the casinos in Vegas aren't being propped up, and the ski industry in Utah isn't being propped up, we're saving England money on the military by keeping ours up to snuff, and we're throwing money at various assorted countries. At one point we were even throwing money at Syria.

But yes, lets stop the leecher culture. All the extra money staying in California and Texas will have to be devoted to erecting walls to keep the rioting starving people from the other states out...that is when California and Texas aren't fighting off threats of nukes and dealing with angry people cutting off their water supply from the Colorado river. There also won't be any TV to keep the masses entertained and no ski slopes and casinos for the masses either. Not even so much as a Mickey Mouse hat. And then there will be the food stamp riots. People with nothing to lose go nuts, I'm sure of that. Then there is the inevitable crash of Wall Street and the stock market, and the riots over the corn and cattle not being subsidized and the people throwing fits because their house in the gulf, on Balboa Island, in New Orleans, on the Keys flooded...and Uncle Sugar wasn't there to save the day. And then there would be the job losses as Wal-Mart, Target, Apple and everyone else implodes. And some point after that...the world will get angry too, since there are no more freebies. I'm sure the newly pissed off countries of Mexico and Canada will happily let them access America by land to get rid of us.

Uncle Sugar is very big. Very very big. Bigger than most people realize. I don't think most know what they talk about when they speak of getting rid of the moocher culture. The feeding at the trough is everywhere, on every level of society, and even involves foreign countries. There isn't a way to avoid the riots in Greece if we go the austerity route, and I think the US going that route would be as bad as I just described, since the world is also at the trough along with the American people and American corporations and states.

Americans would do themselves an infinite, resourceful favor if they stopped thinking about injustice served up to wherever to whomever everywhere else and got back to living within their means within an economical framework that doesn't involve international banking cartels deciding what is sustainable or desirable.

Good luck.

This is why Obama has no chance of losing. Americans are completely addicted to laziness, lethargy and ignorance.

No republican will ever occupy the White House again unless the GOP becomes the party of government give-aways. That is the ONLY way they can compete for the vote. The Senate will remain democrat as well until GOP Senatorial candidates learn that the only way to win is to promise trillions in deficit spending and to literally pander and directly buy votes.

"Ron Paul-style" integrity and honesty is dead forever in American politics.

Now, could someone point me to the nearest Federal Aid Center...I need to fill out an application for free stuff!!

It is hard to retract entitlements once they are given.

Our only hope is the break up of the Union into a conservative and liberal america in which one entity embraces individual liberty and capitalism and the other favors big government and socialism.

A system in which the productive are "skinned" for the pleasure of other citizens cannot go on forever. The entitlement system of liberalism in which half of the population supports the other half is destined to fail. No free citizen wants to be enslaved by others; history has shown us this fact time and time again. Force and coercion have been used in the past to force such a system, only eventualy to be overthrown. The current system in the US is no different than any other system in the course of human history.

It is against human nature to be enslaved and work for the pleasure of another- liberals have not figured that out yet.

Exactly!

Drew it out for emphasis.

It's amazing how little Maddow knows about the topics she reports on, especially when it's her job.

before you decide to eliminate the "leeches", you might want to consider who they are:

Injured veterns of foreign wars
Elderly people, many of whom have "used up their bodies" by making their living doing physical labor
Dissabled childern and adults (both mentally and physically dissabled
Those who suffer illnessess or injury that prevent them from regular employment, either temporarily or permanently
Those whose skills or education level prevent them from finding gainful employment, especially in a "recesssive" market.

OK, now, ask yourself who you know that falls into these categories. . . .elderly parents or grandparents, children, brothers and sisters, your aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors and friends. . . .

You undoubtedly wish to EXCLUDE those who abuse drugs or alcohol (although these can legitimatly be seen as "illness"), as well as those who just prefer to "take what they can get". . ..I don't blame you for that, but the oversight necessary to exclude these would no doubt cost much more than the pittance they get to live on.

Before you pat yourself on the back for being smugly self-righteous and all , consider this... The vast majority of those you mentioned are NOT included in the 47% (which is actually 51%) who pay no federal income taxes because they are NOT tax units, meaning they do not file tax returns and their status as paying or not paying federal income tax is not tabulated.

The Tax Policy Center gives a clear definition of "tax unit" as any single, married filing jointly, married filing separately, single or married head of household individual who files a tax return:
Quote:
What is a tax unit...?
A tax unit is an individual, or a married couple who file a tax return jointly, along with all dependents of that individual or married couple. A tax unit is therefore different than a family or a household in certain situations. For example, two persons cohabiting would be considered one household but if they were not legally married, they would file separate tax returns and thus be considered two tax units. A family could consist of a married couple and the wife's elderly mother who lives with them. That family would be considered two tax units since, if the elderly mother had a large enough income, she would be required to file a federal income tax return on her own.
Tax Model FAQ

Who doesn't have to file a tax return and is therefore not counted in the percentage of those who do or do not pay any federal income tax? Anyone with an income below the following:
