If this is true, the likely rents will be even higher.

It makes me wonder, who exactly will be pocketing all this rent/profit? The article makes it sound so benevolent where it's all about the people, let's give everyone a place to live, it'll be utopia! When in the end isn't this just another way to squeeze more people/suckers/profit into smaller spaces? Call me a cynic, but I'm not convinced these are a great deal.

I was just wondering if these were just conversions of the one room hotels that rent by the hour?

GregW said " A granite counter top is just a modern expression of another tower on the Jones's mansion."

Amen to that! Granite counter tops are so overdone, they seem so common to me. I'd much rather have another natural stone, stainless steel or even tile. All the Jone's mansions look to much alike (boring). Same thing with the neutral tile in the baths. I guess it's a seller of else they wouldn't do them, apparently that's what everybody wants.

I still say, if the market is there for these mini units, go for it. I wouldn't like it, but so what. If it's a money maker, cut me in.

the real question is pay to have something for you in the future...., or pay to someone else and never have

renting is fine when you are 18 and just starting out...but by the time you are 30, you WANT SOMETHING for your hard work, you want to be able to say this is mine and I worked hard to get it

Millions of renters pay more than homeowners for crappier, smaller, and more crowded housing. Rent slaves are in that position precisely because they are unable to buy, even though they pay more to buy than they would pay to own.

yeah the problem for a lot of people is coming up with the down payment which is usually in the tens of thousands easily

Is your user name purposefully ironic?

This thread really delivers the entertainment.

In San Francisco, many tens of thousands. A crappy condo on Twin Peaks would set you back $300K, for which you'd need to cough up at least $60K down.

But then that's the free market for you. Supply and demand. (And rampant speculation, but we're not allowed to mention that lest we be called "socialist," are we?)

The beauty of these beehive complexes is that people are actually going to volunteer to move into em and not be forced. The elite are just laughing their heads off. Like the previous poster says who will be making twice as much money as before or even more by racking and stacking these folks? Now the problem will be to get the rest to fall for this nonsense. I guess that is what all the drones and surveillance and watch lists are for. The ones who won't be so easy to be pushed into the work camps.
