Not necessarily, remember, his brother is running the country now so nothing's going to change. Hopefully for the people of Cuba, the Communist government will go away and democracy or a republic form of government will take over complete with freedom of the press and freedom of speech. The island of Cuba could once again become a major tourist destination it once was.

But Fidel Castro's death might be just the "tipping point" or excuse that his brother and other relatives need to finally liberalize the Cuban system. Once the old man is gone, he won't know or care what happens.

It might make it possible for us to open up to Cuba. I could use a good cigar.

If you read the history of the Cuban revolution you will understand that Raoul Castro was always more hardline and pro-Soviet than Fidel was. Fidel was always willing to find an accommodation with the USA. Unfortunately, our policy was more concerned with the interests of Cuban exiles and dispossessed mafia and, as a result, we actively pushed Fidel into the arms of the Soviet Union. Forty years of hostility has not improved anything.

Especially at CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, NYTimes, Newsweek, Time magazine, most university professors, and some public school teachers. I wonder if San Francisco and Berkeley will hold a memorial? I know Miami will hold a street fair celebration.
