I always see Coulter as a 'conservative' Camille Paglia, with staying power. I like them both and can't comprehend why people have issues with free speech, but then most people hate the idea of free speech so they preach endlessly on what others should say so they can be correct and non-confrontational and righteous.
'Progressives' can't stop defending illusory victims since they know all-too-well that victimhood is a lucrative market that attracts attention-hos, which is why people like Coulter capitalize on their odd psycho-somantic excitement over such non-issues. 'Progressives' need to make people feel weak and then give them a sense of empowerment over those they construe as over-strong. 'Progressives' are weird.
Never once did Coulter call that guy with Down's Syndrome a retard. That was Obama linking it to the boy by reference to Coulter's calling him a retard. Is the president a retard? No, but so what? Any president gets it rough, especially the current sad excuse for one. Problem is that 'progressives' are so preoccupied with their own hate they must create drama for the sake of quelling their own issues with people who are honestly disabled or others who are just plain dim and should support their silly platform by identifying with the rhetoric.
Where is the 'progressive' attacks on themselves for making this foul link, using this guy Frank for their own soap-box predations? He doesn't reek of victimhood and people ought to realize that Coulter brings up issues that others won't touch. Others won't touch it 'cause they are too wrapped up in being PC, too insular to enjoy diversity in a true sense. Too preoccupied with being seen as what they are not but what they like to proclaim that they are, like so many models and posers with a product line to hawk. So they like victimhood because it is easier then facing adversity and defeating it with determination that doesn't involve third-party over-protection & subsidized industries for their made-up markets.

It's not the idea of 'free' speech that bothers some - it's the idea of 'hate' speech. Which Ms. Coulter spews with passionate venom.

Why anyone entertains the likes of Ann Coulter is beyond me. She needs to fade back into oblivion.
Instead of apologizing for using the words that hurts others, she tries to makes others look bad. Is she insane?
She just goes around throwing profanities and whatnots around and expecting people to just take it like it is? I support her freedom of speech but come on. I thought Sarah Palin would at least call Coulter out!

Free speech has its consequences. "Retard" is offensive, and it has been inappropriate for a long time. Back in high school in the mid 60s, I had a friend whose sister was considered "retarded". We were at an assembly once and some girls a couple of rows behind us were talking about something being so retarded. My friend read them the riot act. It has never been "OK" to call someone retarded; it has always been a pejorative term. It is sad that terms for the disabled have to be changed every decade or so b/c the general public co-opts them, e.g. moron, cretin, imbecile, retard, etc.
I agree. The use of the word or the phrase 'tards' in any form tells me all I need to know about the user.

I'm seriously hoping that Ann Coulter is not representative of most conservatives.
She is one of the most divisive Republican personalities. I don't know if she really believes what she's saying - or if she just likes the spotlight a little too much. Probably a little of both.
