Firestorm Erupts Over Virginia's Education Goals | WBUR & NPR

If too many Black and Latino kids do poorly in school, they complain.

If you try to lower the standards a little to make it a more realistic goal for Blacks and Latino kids, they complain.

This is affirmative action. Isn't it what they want?

It looks like you can't satisfy the the race baiters no matter what you do.

So for 10 years Blacks and Hispanics have lagged in progress and no one cared.
The data was right there each and every year. But it was not publicized. It was buried in the data that is produced for each school, district, state after the yearly tests.

Now it's front and center, out in the open for all to see.

And they are shocked
It's racist and full of discrimination.

Board says..but this is reality.
They ask..how did that happen ? Why are the Black kids starting so low ?
Board says..this is where they are. We can't put them at 82% passing because they are at 45% passing.

More shock

Well why shouldn't they be shocked. They ignored the problem, buried it in the data and hoped a miracle would happen.

Truth hurts. Reality hurts. The numbers don't lie and they can't be buried anymore.
Maybe this will open their eyes. Maybe something will finally get done about this.
Because for 10 years it got buried and everyone thought all was hunky dory.

Over 30 states are going with RTT and so far only 8 states have not set different goals based on racial scores.

But don't worry folks..the NAACP is on this. They are looking into Florida's goal setting.
And if they can get that data buried again and put everyone back at the same low goal so no one really knows what is going on then they will.

Hopefully parents & politicians will wake up to the fact that the only way you can equalize outcomes & make everyone feel good is to dumb everyone dumb.

A lawsuit might be just what the doctor ordered to push back NCLB/RTT's over-reach.

Meanwhile, members of the Virginia Legislature's black caucus say they will consider filing a grievance with the U.S. Education Department before the policy is fully adopted.

The problem is that no one cared if Blacks and Latinos did poorly. Low expectations bring low results. Maybe what needs to happen is that MORE needs to be expected of everyone, period.
