The man had a right to defend his home. But, geez, was it really necessary to blow their brains out like something out of Pulp Fiction?
Minnesota has Lethal Force law......
OK, now all you experts on home defense.....if you're scared enough and SMART enough you just shoot, you don't take precise aim, you do what you can as an individual to save yourself.
Not everyone is "movie hero cool" like you are
It's sheer idiocy to take your time and aim to wound...it's a good way for the sleaze to win and kill you.

Did you read the article? The man executed them after wounding them, presumably knowing that they were no longer a threat.
What is wrong with some of you? You don't put a gun to someone's head and off them. You shoot them to defend your property, I get that. But to put the gun's barrel underneath an incapped girl's chin and pull the trigger "to finish her off" (like some animal) is murder, plain and simple.
Something does not add up. We have only the story of the man. He says that he shot the boy several times with a Mini-14 (.223). For those who do not know about guns, a .223 is pretty damn loud. He said that he then went back to his chair (having just killed someone) and started watching tv. He heard footsteps upstairs and the girl came downstairs, only to be shot and killed.
Now-
1. If you had just plinked someone, would you just sit down and chill out?
2. After the girl heard several shots, don't you think she would have cleared out ASAP?
3. Why in the hell would an unarmed girl (after hearing shots), go investigate?
Methinks the guy just killed them. He may have picked them up outside somewhere and brought them in and executed them. It will be interesting to see how the window was broken and if there are prints of the kids on the window or sill.
1. Maybe.
2. She was likely high on drugs.
3. She was likely high on drugs or figured her crime partner killed the homeowner and wanted to check it out.

he worked in the state department and was trained to kill first.
you dont let them have a chance to come back and take you down.
Though they seemed like stupid kids, the man seemed like a psychopath. A horrible situation all the way around.
Well -- it's never a good idea to break into a psychopath's home. All the more reason to not do it. But -- he didn't go looking for trouble, and not everyone is fortunate enough to be mentally healthy.
The execution was overboard. I don't see any need for that once they are incapacitated and it isn't reasonable to do what he did. Outside of that, lethal force initially was justified. Guy was stupid for continuing on, especially in the manner which he did. There is no jury in their right mind that would see his actions as reasonable. I would certainly find him guilty on those excessive counts and I am a strong supporter of lethal force in the defense of life and property.
I agree here, And feel as strongly as Nomander does. if they were down at that point and unable to pose further threat it was a too much. he was acting out his anger after feeling violated from the first robbery likely, Him killing them being an act of revenge in some way. It's awful this happened as a whole.
With so much death out there at the hands of fellow human beings, I think most of us who have not taken a life lose full sight of the magnitude of ending the life of another person. Taking away everything they are, everything they have and everything they will ever be. Despite some people deserving it. Hard to think about.
