What are they demanding..$50K/year, stock options, vacation, 401K and a key to the executive washroom ?

Are they at least protesting in English ?
They are asking for a living wage of $15 an hour.

Oh so just double what they used to make.

Then what about those that were making $12/hour..do they get bumped to $24/hour ?
Does the asst mgr get his pay doubled as well ?

Did anyone ask the franchise owners if they could afford that ?

Imagine..getting paid $15/hour just to say "Would you like fries with that?"

Who cares if they want a better wage? If I was earning $7 an hour in New York and saw my employer make millions by the minute I'd want a piece of the pie too! Do you really want a country where there are islands of extreme wealth amongst a sea of poverty? If so, I suggest you go to Colombia or Venezuela

Better that McDonalds shares a bit of its wealth than those workers break in to your house in the middle of night to make extra money

NYC has one of the highest costs of living in the U.S. yet minimum wage is $7.25.

Unfortunately for these workers, there's a heck of a lot more of them than there are entry level jobs.

So if its a HS kid or a college kid living a comfortable life with their parents while they get through school, they also get this "living wage" as well? Doesn't make sense, sorry. Too many holes in the "living wage" concept.

How do you know that all those franchise owners make millions ?
Each store is independently owned you know.

As a NYC resident, ultimately the customer would have to burden the cost of a pay/wage increase. Therefore, from where I sit, I would ONLY agree to a wage increase in exchange for a "welfare" decrease. Most of the people in fast food from what I can see in NYC are on some sort of food stamp, public assistance benefit. That being said, if their wages increase, it's only fair to assume that a decrease in social benefits should come.

A living wage of 15.00.....

I have to say I have never worked in that industry.
Not even some technically entry level positions get that much!!
Or TEACHERS of public schools with an education claim 15.00
This is unbelievable.
An In/Out by our house pays 10.75 an hour though.

Well naturally if they are not making a living wage they qualify for food stamps and other assistance. The best way to get them off of public assistance is with an increase in wages. Corporations can afford it--the taxpayers can't.
