Here we go again. Another cheerleading session before Congress. You'd think Congress would have learned some manners by now. I know it won't happen, but could Congress do something different this time? HOLD ALL APPLAUSE OR BOOS UNTIL AFTER THE SPEECH IS OVER! Stop the standing ovation after every sentence! Let the man speak! You, Congress, do this for every president. Enough of this BS!
This is not a knock against Obama. I said similiar things on this when GW was president.

One has to wonder if the congresscritters ever realize how childish they appear to the American public and the world,...dividing into two big groups, each standing and applauding on que? At least there are a few who have agreed to sit together regardless of party affiliation.
This is the reason congress cannot get anything accomplished. They are more interested in appearance than substance.
This is not a republican/democrat issue,....it is a congressional issue,....and I (for one) am getting tired of all the bickering, petty politics, and self-interest displayed by ALL the members.
I wonder if the party whips have an electric shock device on their party's members' chairs to make them jump and applaud (sitting US President's political party) or a taser ready if any of their party dare clap or stand off cue (opposing political party). Now that would be pay per view tv. Watch your Congressman get tasered! They could do some roulette wheel system to decide who gets tazed. Wonder if SanFran Diane's Botox forehead will twitch from the jolts?

Actually, giving the State of the Union address before Congress personally is a tradition that began with President Wilson. All prior Presidents, including George Washington, wrote their State of the Union report/requests and sent it to Congress, as the US Constitution requires.
Quote:
He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient...
Source: Article II, Section 3, Clause 1 of the US Constitution
The President can, at any time, revert back to the 125-year tradition of sending Congress his written State of the Union report/requests.
