Deficit panel leaders' plan curbs Social Security - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101110/ap_on_bi_ge/us_cutting_deficits - broken link)

I am assuming that we will have bipartisn support on some of the recommendations? One of the recommendations is raising the minimum age to 69.

The panel was created to come up with solutions to reducing the deficit and preserving Social Security.

I have read the recommendations and think most if not all of the recommendations are needed. Will the Republicans and Democrats agree. Absolutely not. The Democrats won't vote to raise the minimum age, but neither will the Republicans. You would think if they, the Republicans, were really interested in reducing the deficit and government that this would be a good place to start.

Any opinions?

Social Security is NOT a deficit of the government. People are paid out benefits from other previous contributors. The government is not paying anything. They are only administering the fund and mailing the checks.

The Federal Govt needs to replace the money that they borrowed from OUR accounts.

If they want to cut retirement benefits, start with federal pensions--from top to bottom.

Really is that what you think? I don't feel like giving a lesson on the Social Security Administration. You can look it up.

The fact is that if we don't reign in Social Security expenditures we are in a lot of problems. The panel also stated that there needs to be cuts in Medicare.

The military, SS and Medicare are some of the governments largest expenditures. I am glad to see that someone is looking in ways to cut expenditures.

The cuts in SS can be mitigated by changing the regressive SS tax...remove the cap. Certainly raising the retirement age is needed.

My my...the HuffHoes are beside themselves. All they can talk about is their gay fantasies considering that every other word involves "teabaggers".

Actually the left is saying the right is not talking about things like that. They just use catch phrases like cut government...they don't say how or propose anything...
