Locally we have some very small police departments, the one located in the same town the HS is at has a office right in the school. They are there in the morning, the afternoon and throughout the day conducting business. They certainly don't bring people they have arrested there but their presence at the school is a lot, if my understanding is correct they pay a small fee to the police department for this increased presence.
We used to have a sheriff's deputy on each campus, all day, until the cost became prohibitive. Typically, the most overweight slackers were assigned to the schools. I don't believe for a minute that the officers I've seen on campuses would be any more than cannon fodder, if a shooter appeared. Whenever a fistfight broke out, our officer would be shouting at the teachers to "do something"! Worthless, lazy, and expensive.
If that wasn't enough, ours bragged all the time about how he would be able to retire 10 years ahead of us, with a lot more money! (Sad but true!)
The NRA would pretend that all schools would get officers of Special-Forces quality. Simply untrue!
Just because one argument shuts down another doesnt mean it won't ever work.
This whole Newton shooting has opened pandoras box of everyone spewing their political diarrhea EVERYWHERE. We need to acknowledge the deaths and send our condolences not care about the politics.
Face it, there is NOTHING you all can do so stop arguing about it. People have free will and always will. Whether you ban guns or allow them, theyll still be here. And if banned smuggled from other countries like mexico. If you allow them, guess what there will always be that one individual that goes wild.
You can't win. NONE of you republikkklans or demof*gs will get your way so just call it day on this bs. Yea, don't allow armed teachers. Next we will have another DC sniper who instead of running inside will shoot from afar. But wait some want to ban military styls weapons, but OF COURSE criminals dont have a way of getting them anyway and theres no such thing as the black market.
Go on with your lives please. Instead of enjoying it unlike the unfortunate victims of the attack you all want to argue back and forth on an issue you can do NOTHING to solve. This whole thing has been a tool for the democraps to finally have a grand argument against guns. Well you got it. More people need to just live and hope for the best that it the bad doesnt happen to them
There's pretty much zero reason for a soldier who's not an MP to be armed on base. The daily life of a soldier who's not deployed is pretty mundane, especially in MOSes like combat arms where you can't really do much but train. Security on base is rather tight as well (one aberration does not prove anything).
For the same reason weapons are locked in police stations, houses and anywhere else they might be present.
Why do you lock your car?
So you're suggesting that trained military personnel cannot be trusted with firearms?
Really?
On a military base?
Wow. I might get the impression that they are dangerous or something.
