An increase from last year of only 0.7% even with the economy supposedly doing gang busters and in full blown recovery. Hmmm. They blamed Hurricane Sandy and the Sandyhook Shooting but it looks like the urge to spend money wasn't there and neither was the money.
People looked for bargains and have gotten a little shrewder in their spending with more limited income. I think they'll hit the stores for steeply discounted after Christmas sales. That and the gun dealers.

I know I spent about 20% less this year. In part because I found some really good deals and in part because I set out to spend less. I plan on hitting the after Christmas sales to stock up for next year.
Not quite yet. We're struggling badly but the crash will come when we go over the fiscal cliff. The impact of taking $60/week away from the middle class will cause the economy to crash. Wages have been stagnant for several years so this tax increase is a real one. They're not taking part of extra we have because we've gotten raises. They're taking the grocery money.
I'm curious to see what obummer's real plan is. If he were concerned with the middle class or the economy he would not let the Bush tax cuts expire. The fact he's willing to do so tells me he has an agenda. I just don't know what it is or how bad it will be.
My guess is that he'll let them expire, let us struggle for several months and then swoop in with his own tax cuts to "stimulate" the economy that look nothing like the Bush tax cuts and proclaim himself a hero. He'll have to wait to do this because, otherwise, he won't be able to blame the republicans for us going over the fiscal cliff. If his plan looks too much like Bush's plan or is put in place too close to allowing us to go over the cliff, he might get the blame for us going over and the bad economy that will follow. I'm guessing he's out to prove how bad the republicans are so this one is going to hurt.
Sadly, it seems politics, these days, have more to do with na-na -my side won than actually doing anything to fix what's wrong with the country.
You should contact your GOP representatives and tell them to stop obstructing, stalling and filibustering.
And you know it's not my side won {democrats} it's what Americans voted for by a majority {tax increases}. If you can't accept that, then step aside.
the house has sent budget after budget to the senate and harry reid will not bring them up for a vote tell your side to stop obstructing and vote on a budget. if you cant accept that then step aside

I am not spending anything until I know whether or not Congress and White House reach an agreement in the fiscal cliff. This Christmas was the cheapest one for me in many, many years. It does not look like GOP is willing to cut any kind of deal, so I might as well prepare for the worst. As for my investment portfolio, I already "sent the cows to the slaughter house". I think it was a good time to do that anyway.

At the same time, sending a letter or email to the Whitehouse brings a standard "form letter" response and nothing more. In order to get Whitehouse ATTENTION, it must be in the form of a petition with a minimum of signatures, like the Piers Morgan deportation petition.
Now, try sending a letter, or email, to your Rep and see just what kind of form-letter you get for a response. There are some good ones on the Hill, but not enough of them.

You mean the Ryan Budget, that called for further tax-cuts on the rich; slashing Medicaid and child nutrition programs; and privatizing Medicare?
Not passing any budget and working on continuing resolutions is superior to passing a bad budget. There is no requirement in the Constitution for the government to have a budget.
