Huh?

Why are using my name incorrectly?

You're weird and are off topic. Get back on topic of this thread please - which is the military in case you forgot.

We do not over glorify the military - only someone who is un-American would even consider that...or a liberal.

Are you a liberal?

Only from mouth breathing knuckleheads. Of course we over glorify our military, it's all part of the military industrial complex's efforts to squelch any dissent of the obscene spending and wars this nation is always engaged in. They don't want to interrupt their cash flow, and an easy way to do this is to program people that only devotion and praise is acceptable, anything else will be met "Why do you hate America?"

P.S. See above ^

And that's about what I would expect from you. Not surprising either, as you are consistently wrong.

Dumb Americans think that we are a global leader through military might, but the rest of the world does not admire our military. They admire our freedoms, our opportunity, our democratic institutions that are transparent and serve society, our government that provides a basic safety net for our elderly, disabled, and children, our ingenuity, and our equality.

However, as America becomes less unequal and we cater to the bankers who crashed the global economy, attack senior citizens, the disabled, the poor, as economic mobility reflects a caste system, and as our democratic institutions become corrupt and serve the few rather than society, America loses its global power. All we have left for the world to admire is a gigantic, aggressive military that wages wars on third world countries who pose no threat to us.

Who wants to emulate a nation that leads the world in selling arms and incarceration?

Talk about an unflattering truth! All true, but far too complex for your average FOX News watcher, who is trained towards unthinking devotion of all things American, and what is more patriotic than a fly over by F-15's or a B-2 bomber?

For those who don't like propaganda and search for real truth's, no matter how uncomfortable they may be, see what I've quoted above.

A few knuckleheads? I was born and raised in Hawaii, Wahiawa specifically. This is the town where Schofiled Barracks is located. I witnessed first hand the behavior of GI's especially while they were drunk and in groups. There's something to be said about anyone who acts as if their chit doesn't stink.
Wahiawa is a rough town, or at least it was back in the 80's. Towns like that seem to attract some of the more unruly members of the military. I preferred Honolulu and Barbers Point, personally, as well as the North Shore.

What does it all come down to in the end?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

That's why we spend eight times more than the rest of the world on defense, it is called "corporate socialism", only this is the kind of socialism that kills people.

American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. . . . This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. . . .Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. . . . In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

Thats right and since the MIC provides millions of Americans with good paying jobs and creates a ripple effect throughout the economy, libelral losers who would starve without that economic stimulus should shut their face and thank those of us who feed them and their children

Well...LMAO!! Let me put it this way....

Look, i've said on here a million times that i most certainly don't deserve the money i make in this job, but if they weren't giving it to me, they'd give it to another mustache. Unlike other folks on here that work in Defense Contracting, i won't sit here and tell you that my job is so important that the Pentagon just couldn't do without my presence.

That said, my contract WILL END one day, and i'll be out of a job. Know what? I'll consider that to be a great day because i did what i'm supposed to do...that is, do a job until the military either finds someone else to take over this function for a cheaper price, or do away with this line of work altogether (which is a distinct possibility). That's probably a few years away if not longer, but i'm fine with it if it's tomorrow.

I won't starve if i lose the job. I made a decent living before i worked in Defense, and i'll just go back to what i was doing before i worked for DOD.

So if you wanna consider me a welfare ***** (whatever that word is), i'm cool with that. I'm not in denial, nor do i think i'm any great shakes. I just do a job and get a check. And they won't miss me when i'm gone.

I have many family members who have been active military, including my husband (Vietnam) and my youngest son (Iraq).

As individual service members they (as all military members do) deserve to be honored for their service to their country. They did everything their country trained them to do and asked them to do. They left their homes, their families and their home countries to fight in god-foresaken crap holes because that was what their country asked them to do. And for that I am grateful.

Go further back in history and we might be speaking a different language today, and the world boundaries might look very different from today, if it were not for our American military and the job they did earlier in the 20th century.

Go even further back and the queen of England may have been our queen as well, if it were not for Americans willing to take up arms.

Do we over-glorify our military? The young men and women who put on the uniform? No.

But when I see our kids coming home missing arms and legs, or in body bags, or brain dead I wonder what the last 11 years have been for? What was the point? We went into Iraq supposedly with one mission. When that mission turned out to be bogus the mission was changed. Have we accomplished ANYTHING worthwhile (that will hold up over time) in Iraq or Afghanistan? No. I don't think we have.

Did we accomplish anything (that would hold up over time) in Vietnam? No. We didn't. All those dead American boys. For nothing.

I have always believed that if a war was worth fighting - if it was worth placing our youth in harms way - that there needed to be a clearly defined mission. If we are putting our kids out there for reasons that are worth fighting for, then the war is worth winning. And you win wars by any means at your disposal. Don't come back at me with stupid "what if's" - if it's worth fighting for, it's worth winning. To win a war you do everything and anything you have to, and use every means at your disposal.

This country has gotten it all wrong since the end of WW2. We don't win wars anymore. We just.....end them. We take our toys and just go home. Are we any safer for the effort? Again. No.

As always we just need to follow the money. Who makes money from wars. Who benefits financially and politically from wars. Rhetorical question because it's always the usual suspects - politicians and big business sleep in the same bed.

There's been both some stupid and some sad comments in this thread. One more time when I ask "what are these guys learning in school?" "where is pride in their country?" "what DO these guys believe in?" Hold disgust where it belongs - with the suits who hold the power and the money. Don't hold disgust for an 18 year old kid who either wants to get out of his small home town and see the world, or needs money for higher education, or who is still young enough to believe in "Truth, Justice and the American Way"
