Iraq invaded our ally, Kuwait. We went in and removed saddam from our allies country as we were obligated. Besides being an ally Kuwait produces alot of oil and we couldnt have saddam threatening stabilty in the region. We didnt need architects and sellers our involvement was by default
Of course democrats and republicans voted for and supported this war. It was based on information by our intelligence agencies. The fact of the matter is the presidential adminstration in power will always be held accountable. It will, right or wrong, be Bush jr's war. And right or wrong, a republican adminstration's war. It is what it is. Not that many Republicans don't blame Obama for the weather everyday....

Did we ever actually lower the poverty rate after LBJ's War on Poverty? From figures I've read, it has cost $50 trillion so far with no discernable effect on poverty.
How would you ever know that it has had no effect? That is a statement based on nothing at all measurable. Poverty could be 10 or 20 times worse maybe a hundred times; who knows?
Maybe the GOP should introduce legislation to cut social security, food stamps, housing assistance to help fund the search for the WMD's that were never found.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The nine-year-old Iraq war came to an official end on Thursday, but paying for it will continue for decades until U.S. taxpayers have shelled out an estimated $4 trillion.
Over a 50-year period, that comes to $80 billion annually.
Altogether, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could cost the U.S. between $4 trillion and $6 trillion, more than half of which would be due to the fighting in Iraq, said Neta Crawford, a political science professor at Brown University.
Her numbers, which are backed by similar studies at Columbia and Harvard universities, estimate the U.S. has already spent $2 trillion on the wars after including debt interest and the higher cost of veterans’ disabilities.
As bad as the enormous debt is that the neocons rang up to enrich themselves and their oil buddies, what we seem to forget is the hundreds of thousands of INNOCENT Iraqi civilians who died as a result of the violence the United States ordered on their country. They were victims, and the soulless, heartless basta*ds responsible for their untimely deaths will never get the justice they deserve.

Th exact quote used several times to sell the war was "We cannot wait for the final proof - the 'smoking gun' - that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud."
That's a reference to nuclear material, not just conventional poison gas.
