These are hardly isolated. When Newtown occurred it was the third in thirty days... But any excuse not to exercise common sense gun safety, right?
No actually, they're very isolated. There are more than 300 million people in this country, how many are killed in mass killings each year? Just how often does a crazy guy with high capacity magazines rush into a place and shoot and bunch of people? I know your default answer is "too often" but let's be rational, how often does this actually happen?

A self defense situation against multiple assailants that requires a 30 round magazine. Oh, please do go on... And while you're at it, please further describe the Katrina scenario. It would be nice in that situation to have a Howitzer... Perhaps that should be legal as well? (If "it would be nice to have" is our bar)
It would be nice to talk to someone who wanted to restrict gun ownership who actually knew what they were talking about, but that bar is clearly much to high for this forum.
You don't think a home invasion with multiple attackers would need a 30 round magazine? Or in your fantasy hollywood world does everyone only need 1 bullet / attacker? Or maybe you think that multiple people don't commit home invasions (another fantasy)? Are you so narrow minded?

Our entire military can't even disarm Afghanistan after 11 years of trying. They only had 4.6 guns per 100 people. We are 50 times that size with 13 times the population and have 88.8 guns per 100 people. Our entire military & police force would be wiped out before they reduced our guns by 2%. Do you really want that bloodshed on your hands?
It will start the biggest civil war in world history. Once the civil war starts, other countries will choose sides, join in & rapidly escalate hostilities before taking control. Or other countries will jump at the chance to invade as we are busy fighting each other. If a mini-revolution starts you can be sure Russia and China will further support it to destroy the US once and for all. Revolutionaries would have access to money and a nice weapon flow as well as intelligence and logistics.

Our military is trying to stabilize Afghanistan and help country build. They were never designed for that, so of course it has taken 11 years. If we were just going in there to attack and while them out, we would of been done within 6 months.
April 1861, it happened once it CAN happen again. Our goverment governs by the consent of the people. If it loses that consent then the result is possibly an insurection. That is the way our founding fathers intended it to be, as a last resort or a final check on federal power.
