The customer is always right......assuming you sell something the customer wants. Just because someone walks through the door demanding something you don't sell doesn't make that person a legitimate customer whose demands a businessman should accommodate.
Requesting something is not the same as demanding. I've ran businesses and I always tailor it to the area.
businesses adapt to meet the needs of their customers. If this particular McDonalds has a lot of Muslim customers, then they should learn how to do Halal properly. Free market, supply and demand, etc etc, right?
sure and in my city where there areas where there is a large amount of Muslims, Halal meat is available there.
I prudent businessman will know that he can't satisfy every customer demand by every type of customer. McDonalds is known for The Big Mac and the McRib and their french fries. It's a business model that works, and has worked for 60 years. If a Muslim wants halal meat, then it should not expect to eat at McDonald's. That's how life works. The franchisee of this restaurant should have never even contemplated meeting these demands. McDonalds is succesful enough without the undue burdens of a religious sect.

Here's an update. McDonalds Corp took the incident very serious. And here is where the money rewarded will be going:

Dearborn is nowhere near 40% Muslim. It's maybe 40% Arab, of which a large number are Lebanese Christians. Hamtramck is the Muslim area of Detroit these days.
