I wonder if that's his opinion or Michelle's?

It wouldn't surprise me if they tried to feminize football or anything else that men do.

This is going to be very ticklish for the left. With the trial lawyers now in the mix, we've got all the same ingredients that we had with the War on Tobacco in place with the War On Football. But with the popularity of football, the left knows that it has to approach w/ trepidation. This is Pres. Obama sticking his toe in the water, and to echo the poster above, my guess would be that this is at the urging of Michelle.

I'm surprised they haven't banned cheerleaders or at least forced teams to put some chubby girls out there yet.

As do most people actually involved in the sports community. It's only the "arm chair" athletes who know diddly SQUAT, who gripe and moan about common sense reforms.

Most High Schools are already starting to take the concussion issue very seriously, especially since we've had some high profile situations out here where a child has had repeat concussions and wound up severely brain damaged. Our school works with a local medical center to establish a base line for brain function for each child (they got a grant) that they can compare to, so if the child is injured, they can more tightly pinpoint when the child is ready to return to a sport. The "wait two weeks and then you're good to go" methods of the past don't work, because every person heals at a different rate. Some may be ready to play again in two weeks, and for others it takes six months.

This isn't a joke. Now that they're doing the research, they're finding that college and pro players experience a loss of IQ and early dementia. Is a game worth that if you can find a way to make it safer? The other issue is that because of how extremely competitive youth sports have become, kids are experiencing serious physical and brain injury at an earlier and earlier age. We have kids at our school who are DONE playing anything by the time they're a senior, because they're on their 4th concussion, or because they've blown out their knee one too many times. Why are 3 graders playing tackle football? Our boys are very good athletes, but we made them play flag until they were much older. They actually have a better grasp of the skills because they had to learn the game vs. win by brute force. It makes zero sense.
Agreed. I coached high school swimming for awhile, and all coaches had to take mandatory concussion training. The stuff we learned and the consequences we saw for young people were scarier than hell.

Yeah, like dads don't give a **** about their son's health.

ESPN survey finds news coverage of concussions leads majority of parents less likely to allow sons to play in youth football leagues - ESPN

By the way, the folks who have brought this issue to the forefront have all been former NFL players and their families. This ain't a left issue this is about work place safety that is tricking down to the plantations farm teams.

Default The royal hypocrite has spoken

If obama is so concerned about americas youth, why not stop sending them abroad to be maimed and killed in wars of aggression?
