In 1936, a religious Soviet family flees civilized Russia in an attempt to escape religious persecution from the atheist Bolsheviks.
Having traveled hundreds of miles north, into the remote and harsh Siberia, this family lived with absolutely no modern amenities or human contact for over 40 years, until Soviet geologists, prospecting for Iron Ore, discovered their existence.
The rest, simply put, is amazing. Their survival, lack of human contact, and even stories of the eldest, Karp Lykov (in his 80's), refusing to believe that man had stepped foot on the moon.
Enjoy the read, I found this applicable to the forum as it relates to political religious matters and/or persecution.
Many mothers do this........nothing new and nothing most of us haven't heard of before. There really are women out there that would die for their children and who knows what she told the husband. For all we know she may have hidden the fact she was eating.
Little hard to belittle people who ran from a country that was out to kill them any way, it's surprising they survived at all. I live in a place were it's very cold and snows for 7 months, I can't imagine living out in it.
Thank you for posting this. I could not help but wonder about the condition of their teeth, of all things. Amasing that none had an absess which would have likely killed them without an antibiotic. Then I got to wondering about their dreams given they relayed them for entertainment. Did they have flying dreams? Conflicts with animals? Summer?

I wondered the same thing about their teeth, this would give us some idea that what they ate was nutritious enough. They didn't look skinny and frail......
One hates when they have to walk around dead mothers on the sidewalk.
Guess if this is all your getting from the story what a shame........I don't see how you get walking around dead mothers from the story.
