I don't think so. Germany got rid of all their monuments to Hitler. Unlike the Southerners who seem to like to embrace their racist past.
Correct; and concentration camps were kept largely as a way to insure the public recalled the darkest moments of human history. Not to celebrate those days.

Exactly, and the meanwhile the Southerners just want to forget about slavery. It was just a war about "state's rights", bla, bla, bla.

I do find a bit of karma as you learn living here, and having to travel on business, the correlation between redneck hotbed regions of racism and abject poverty is striking. The progressive regions, such as the Nashville MTSA, far exceed these pockets of poverty manyfold economically.
In short, when you stumble upon a region with a lot of racism, you have stumbled upon a region where people have little reason to hope for a better future.
I guess some people are just too sensitive to handle the truth of history. CENSOR IT ALL!!!! GOD FORBID WE LEARN ABOUT OUR COUNTRY'S HISTORY!
I apologize for also using the phrase God forbib, as I am sure many in this thread were probalby highly offended by the mention of God, if even in a common cultural phrase.
CENSOR IT ALL!
When I want to brush up on our nation's racist past, I'll pick up a history book, thanks. Monuments dedicated to the architects of that racism are unnecessary.
Forrest was a racist in a time where everyone was racist. Hitler came to prominence almost a century later under different racial circumstances, and to top that off, Forrest never advocated ethnic cleansing.
And Hitler came to power in a time when animosity towards other ethnic groups were high. Hitler was not alone in his beliefs in his time.
Your link from some revisionist historian is not convincing.
I am a supporter of the Union side and agree that the Confederacy had to be put down, and that slavery had to be abolished.
I also understand that the war was fought over state's rights.
Why do you buy in to the historical revisionism that ignores that fact?
Um, I study history.
