It isnt failing everywhere for sure.... where I live jobs are plentiful and public schools good and crime is low. There was talk in the local Grand Forks ND paper about how people in North Dakota dont understand that it is different in other areas of the country. I guess so....but here locally the area is best it is ever been economically.
Yes there are a few areas of the country which are failing for lack of a better word...but by and large most folks are living in good communities with good families and are living the American dream. The dream is still there but does get clogged by all the rheteoric which is so easy to spout nowadays via our 24/7 society.

And didn't that all start with LBJ ? The "Great Society".....
Without Federal farm subsidies and military payments North Dakota's prosperity would dry up and go away.
Where we made the big mistake was deciding to continue military contractor’s profits after WW2. They created the cold War to keep their profits intact. They decided we need to police the world against communism and or terrorism at our expense and their continued profits. That is where we went wrong. All of our fancy weapons will not keep the world free of either communism or terrorism. It will just keep most of us in economic trouble while the weapons makers live in luxury.
Obviously we are a disaster right now.... what happened?
The people were convinced by the media to ignore a war hero who paid his dues to the country for president and instead annointed a hustler who had done nothing but smoke dope and play class warfare because they wanted to be "cool".
