After looking over a bill named HR 748, I decided to see if it was truly proposed (which it was). For those who don't know the bill it essentially says everyone between 18-25 has to enroll in national service, federal govt work, or community work. So I decided to look over more proposed bills and now I'm beginning to understand that Congres literally proposes dozens of bills that I'm sure are costly to even propose but they get no approval. I saw one bill HR-773 which essentially says the budget of the military should never be reduced even in sequestration. I've only looked over maybe six bills thusfar so if any of you see any others that are interesting post them, it seems like democrats and republicans attempt to co-Spenser each other bills a lot more than I originally thought.

Here's the site:

Enjoy.

Thanks for the link.

I will note that the bill concerning drafting young people for some type of national service has been around for decades (i.e., introduced on a regular basis, year after year), after the draft ended. It was 'big news' the first couple of years it was introduced, but I guess no one even notices now.

Really? Just learning that? That's something you learn in Civics 101 on the first day, or on Saturday mornings if you watched cartoons as a kid.

Anybody can propose a bill. It doesn't cost anything. The vast majority of bills go nowhere.

I'm just a bill...an ordinary bill.

It has to cost something to create a bill, everything in Washington does. I thought our congressmen were smarter and proposed reasonable bills that could possibly be signed into law, not just proposing ill-minded bills that will never see the light. Personally, if I were a congressmen my bills would always be well-thought and viable enough to be at least sent to the Senate for approval or vetoing. You know what I mean? They need to propose a bill of being rational when proposing bills.

Well, it costs the salary of the people working on it, namely the Congresspeople and their staffs. It also costs all the lobbyist who write most of our laws, but we don't directly pay for that.

Most bills are proposed so that when re-election time comes around, legislators can say, "See, I proposed a bill that states blah, blah, blah. So clearly I am pro/anti blah, blah, blah."

And you think Congressman are smart? ;-)

You can write a bill and ask your Congressperson (at whatever level) to submit it. That's called lobbying.
