I imagine there would be one hell of a fuss if the govt. tried doing this, because we all know that the more money you have, the more 'leeway' you have with the law.

this is not democracy.
The government does do this. It's called eminent domain. That's why I said if the government is doing it, then the people being poor isn't the issue. That can happen to anybody at any time. If they decide to build a new offramp to a highway and your house is in the way, then your house is gone. Doesn't matter who you are.

You can stop with the inflammatory rhetoric, you would be better served to just make your point.

If people want more control of their lives then they must pay their own way.

someone needs to explain how this is so.

for example, we knock down a load of low income housing, replace it with high end apartments, and miraculously the poor benefit?

I mean, WTF!

so, the rich yuppies move in whilst the original residents are left in a slum somewhere on the edge of town, or maybe sleeping in a tent in the local park.

So what's the benefit here?
Link to a specific post so we have some context.

how about they wanted to build a new expressway through Beverley Hills - you reckon eminent domain would cover that?

how about a well-connected and rich mansion owner - you reckon they could just knock his house down?

I doubt it somehow.

When has this happened and in what community/where?

Just more conjecture. They are working on taking homes from people in Palo Alto where the average home is worth more than 2 million dollars, one of the most expensive cities in America. This is all for the high speed rail.

I'll snap a pic in the morning - the houses down there aren't worth $2 million. Maybe a million. There is already a huge easement.

When BC & Newt passed Welfare Reform, we heard tons of Kenneth's telling us millions would be on the streets, our cities would look like 3rd world nations. It did NOT happen. Those dumped off welfare got J-O-B-S. They adapted.

OP, If liberals doomsday forecast of the Welfare Reform era were 100% wrong, why in the world would anyone buy into your prognosis NOW?
