They have left behind an overtaxed, overregulated illegal alien wasteland full of a welfare dependant class to ensure the state is lost forever and now are looking for "greener" pastures. Beware.............

I blame everyone who moved to CA from those other states in the first place. The blame game is fun, but idiotic.

Real life fact, people move to CA from other less LIBERAL states because they are in fact wanting to be LIBERAL and now they will take their LIBERAL IDEAS back to wherever they came from and change the status quo. Whatever it is. Oh yeah, some conservatives do that too but you know, this is a LIBERAL BASHING/CALIFORNIA IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL thread so I'm going with it.

I was born and raised in California. I used too fight tooth and nail to defend it. Like it or not, alot of the "liberal" (and I am NOT a liberal, far from it, I'm as conservative as they come) ideals have come from California. California has contributed an awful lot to the United States. It still has alot too offer.

At the same time, those liberal ideals have gone WAY to far to the left. The great social experiment of California has literally failed and people in this state don't want to admit it. We cannot continue to provide every social entitlement program under the sun for anyone and everyone who wants them. There is no residency requirement in California to receive welfare or anything else. Walk across the border and you get it all: IMMEDIATELY.

People like me are leaving California, because they are retiring and the state is just too expensive to live in. You can sell your house here, buy a bigger, nicer house in wherever, and have, in many cases, hundreds of thousands of dollars left over. A great deal of money to travel on or whatever.

Ah yes, but the great California weather. Just another urban myth. Sure, there is a small percentage of this state that has great weather year round. MAYBE 10% of the state. Yet, because of this, its much too expensive for just about anyone to live in. Where I live, in July/August its 100+, sometimes 115 degrees. That is excessively HOT for ANY area. In the winter 20 degrees isn't uncommon. And MOST of California is just like that. So the weather argument, when you really look at it, doesn't hold water.

The fact is, the California Dream is just that. A dream. California is no great living area, which makes other states pale in comparison. When you break it down, it comes down to dollars and cents. Your dollar goes further in the other states which have just as much to offer as California. THAT is why people are living. No other reason.

I recently moved away from CA...to another liberal state

I have yet to meet a single person who moved away from CA for solely political reasons or because it was 'too liberal', or because the 'taxes were too high'. Not one. Even my ultra conservative Republican Father won't move away from CA because while the taxes might be smaller elsewhere, the lower possible wages wouldn't make up for it.

Most either got a job offer somewhere else, wanted new scenery, wanted to live in a place that was new and exciting to them, moved for school or something else along those lines. I moved for a job, it had absolutely NOTHING to do with my political leanings. Although, I did turn down a job in Texas, but that's because you quite literally could not pay me to live there...but that's a personal thing

The ones I met that moved to Austin were doing it because they had families and Austin was a cheaper city.
I also met them through school functions while my son was in school there. Don't know about the singles or DINKS though.

Except that your idea of blaming those who moved to CA back in the day has no basis in reality, while the OP's narrative does. Remember CA was not always a liberal bastion, after all it is the state that gave Reagan his start in politics.

It was not the late 80's and 90's that the state veered far left with people like Willie Brown. The results are pretty obvious, unless you're a lefty in deep denial. What kind of state spawns major new industries (personal computers, porn) and a quarter-century later wants a federal bankrupt and has had 4 municipalities go bankrupt.
