I was born and raised in this state although I have traveled a lot and lived in the Bay Area in most of the 80's and 90's.

Arizona politics infuriates me to no end.

Several weeks ago the Phoenix City Council passed a law banning the discrimination of transgender individuals use of womens bathrooms as is the law in many major cities.

Now Senate Bill 1432, introduced by Rep John Kavanagh from Fountain Hills AZ (a suburb of Phoenix) would make a person guilty of disorderly conduct if he or she uses a bathroom, locker room, or dressing room that's not designated for the sex listed on his or her birth certificate. And they are trying to rush the bill through. Republicans control the Governorship, the House and Senate here.

Why do we have SO MANY white people here in AZ who vote for Republicans? They can't all be this crazy and socially conservative. Phoenix city politics isn't AS crazy, as we are a majority minority city, have a progressive community, and don't have as many wingnuts in power. The other bedroom communities except for Tempe, where ASU is, are different though. EVERY time we make some forward progressive progress, the SOB Republicans take us several steps back.

I know that 1/2 of the people in this country don't even vote, but things are getting serious. I am at the end of my rope!!!

You remember "the royal flush"? The what's going to happen to he-she's' when they're taking "a tinkle" in public restrooms specified for men or women.

So you think non-white people are more favorably disposed to transgenders?

No I don't.Transgender people are people, and shouldn't be discriminated against. Republicans in elected office pass ALL of these regressive socially conservative laws, and the white vote gets Republicans elected to office. The majority of people of color DO NOT vote for Republicans.

States where Republicans aren't in power DON'T pass socially conservative and anti-civil rights laws.
