I found out yesterday my neighbor is harboring a pit bull, I fear for my own dog's safety and for ours as well. I'm not going to have to erect a fence to help stop an attack, because their animal has gotten loose before.
Ho Hum, another dog mauls baby, kid, mother, etc.
The next post will probably say, its not the dogs fault because everyone knows dogs don't bite.
Actually, dogs do bite. Blaming a dog for biting is akin to blaming people for breathing. On the other hand, a good dog owner makes sure that their dog is not put into a situation where it feels either the need or the urge to bite. Idiots, on the other hand, think that Pit Bulls are more inclined to bite than other breeds, when that is far from the truth. Pit Bull attacks make great headlines, though, just like Rottweiler, Doberman, and German Shepherd attacks made great headlines back in the 70s and 80s.

The family had two other dogs that weren't involved in the attack. Only the pit bulls attacked in this incident. Are there certain triggers that might provoke a pit bull attack that are unique to pit bulls?

I would say the "fault" goes to whomever was supposed to be watching this baby. They are the ones that left an 18mo old baby alone with 7 dogs unsupervised.

Extra care is a must when any larger breed dog has access to a smaller child. Toddlers and young children don't understand what actions, movements, pokes, or prods that can provoke a dog to attack.
I do believe this is just a tragic accident. But to all the large breed dog owners out there with children, just be extra cautious and never let a lil one play around a large dog unless you are right there!

But were all 9 dogs together and those 2 just decided not to join in? Or were they in a separate area?
The article wants you to believe that two dogs just sat there and watched on the sideline. Somehow, I very seriously doubt that's what happened.
