Absolutely we should fund science. It's one of the most important things we can do. Only working on science that is profitable in the short term is, well, short sighted. Long term success is achieved through long term, far reaching science.

Sure, because we want the same dynamic that has overtaken the post office, the DMV, the public school system, and Washington DC generally, to take over science. We want science to be like the war on drugs, where they spend $20 billion per year on interdiction, and the result is that drugs become more readily available, cheaper, and more potent. Of course we would want that.

Federal funding for science bought us computers and the internet, so I would hope so...or else people couldn't vote here in the first place.
We all know there would be no internets, or tv's, or light bulbs, or indoor plumbin, or horseless carriages etc. without the gooberment.
