They obviously chose to use him as a "pin-up" guy to show what happens when you don't pay Uncle Sam. So sad really. I hope that they give him some good picture roles and help him out like they help those drug addicts robert downey jr and mel gibson.

Another unproductive use of our prison system. It would be better to have him pay it off rather than sit in prison and not be able to do so. Restitution should always be first course of action.

The IRS presented him with any number of opportunities to pay it off, but he (or his lawyer) absolutely wanted to take the case to trial. They were even offered a plea deal, once the case had been handed over to the justice system, and they refused. It wasn't until their defense turned sour they would even entertain the idea of an agreement, but by then it was too late - you don't get to keep a plea deal as a back-up plan in case your defense doesn't work.
Sounds like Wesley Snipes fell in with the wrong crowd and acted on some really, really bad advice. FWIW, the guy who engineered the entire scheme (Eddie Ray Kahn) is going to spend another decade in jail. (Although he probably should be in an institution. He apparently tried the entire admiralty court, the documents being invalid because his name was typed in all caps, Florida wasn't under US government jurisdiction etc. etc.)
I hate paying taxes as much as the next guy, but that doesn't make sympathetic to those who decide to look the other way when Uncle Sam asks for the club fees.

That's "convicted" tax evader.
Snipes is a talented actor, he will be back at work in no time.
Lol...he had it coming although tossing him in prison was dumb. Since he opted to take it to trial thereby wasting the governments time, I'd charge him the taxes, court costs, and be done with it.
Him sitting in prison was a net loss overall because he could've been paying taxes over the last few years. But oh well...what's done is done.
It was stupid, He's not a violent man who deserved to sit in prison at all. They made an example out of him. Me and my film buff friend discussed this many times and said it was bulls**t. Part of it was for being black, Sadly. Lindsay Lohan owes taxes and breaks the law every 5 minutes and she's free. What does that tell you? All bulls**t.
I hope he straightens it out and gets back to the big screen real soon!

Yes, he totally deserved it, but I'll be glad to see him back in the movies again. He should sign up for more withholding this time.
