I thought the government was all holy and all powerful, so why do public schools lag behind private schools. Even at the university level, when you rank schools, you have to get out of the Top 20 before you reach a public school. Liberals, if the government and public goods are so incredible, why do they lag behind private schools?

Smaller class size, genius.

A silly idea, I know...

And for the record, I trust government about as far as I can throw them, collectively.

How about discussing something of merit, instead of this predictable lame liberal bashing troll thread.

Just saying.

Private schools can choose their students.

Why are you asking "liberals?" Do said liberals not sometimes send their children to private schools? Do "conservatives" not overwhelmingly send their children to public schools?

The short answer is that private schools are self selecting. They can pick and chose who attends. Public schools, being taxpayer funded and all, don't have the same luxury. Either you know this and are just doing some tired trolling, or you're the product of a particularly terrible public school.

The same question might be asked of right-wing extremists (the opposite of "liberals," yes?). Why do so many of the right-wing extremists seem to send their children to religious and other private schools ... instead of public schools?

Because public schools in America are of extremely poor quality, surpassed even by several middle income nations.

Asking the question really seems odd. For an informed adult [I'm assuming] American[again assuming] to even need to ask that question is puzzling.

First of all, is the OP referring to college or K-12 schools?

I know of some private K-12 schools that cost over 20K a year tuition. This high tuition allows only kids from privileged backgrounds to be able to attend. The same goes for college.

In other words, money provides a better education and the selection of students.

OP, I have long found that any thread that begins "why" is begging the question. I do not think it is universally true that private schools are better than public schools. I have friends who took their kids out of Catholic school when they discovered the public school kids were ahead in math, for example. Here in CO, private schools do not have to use certified teachers for teaching, and some pvt schools have "teachers" who don't even have a college degree!
