Watching the final piece being lifted to the top of the new World Trade Center. The TV is introducing us to the workers doing the job and telling us which union each worker is a member of. We have Ironworkers, Operating Engineers, Electrical Workers. There are many unions that built this tower. We have learned how these union workers rise at 5AM to get trains from the suburbs and other parts of NYC to get to work at 7AM and how they have to brown bag their lunch because the ride to the top floors takes 35 minutes and how they work in all kinds of cold and hot weather. You know the Republicans have to be unhappy because they hate unions and they don't like working people in general. All the attention the union workers are getting this morning has to be very upsetting to the GOP. But the truth is that, if non union people built this building, the result would have been disaster.

When I was in the construction business I preferred to hire Union workers because I did not have to waste time showing them how to do the job.

When I was in the construction business I preferred to hire non-union workers because I needed someone who would work. Union workers know how to do the job, they just use the union rules to make the job run longer than necessary.

Well, only about 10 percent of the nation's workers these days belong to a union, so not much to make a hoopla about either way.

IBTL. Can you cite evidence to back up this claim?

THE only reason liberals support unions is that they help get liberals elected to office. End of story.

No it's because they've been the one lynchpin against completely unfettered corporatism in this country.
