Yup, you're a day late and a dollar short. From Al Sharpton of all people.

wcbstv.com - Sharpton Leads Protest Over Derogatory Rap Lyrics (http://wcbstv.com/watercooler/2.246389.html - broken link)

[Excerpt]

NEW YORK (AP) ― Protests were held in more than 20 cities Tuesday over the use of degrading lyrics by the music industry, the Rev. Al Sharpton said.

The so-called Day of Outrage, organized by Sharpton's National Action Network, included protests in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Houston, Richmond, Va., Jacksonville, Fla., and other cities.

Sharpton, who led a demonstration at the Motown Museum in Detroit, said, "I'm here in Motown in Detroit as a symbol of when music was not denigrating and was entertaining."

Sharpton announced an initiative in April to combat the use of words such as "*****," "*****" and "ho" in rap music.

Here is a site with other instances of outrage over rap lyrics. A lot of it before the Imus flap. Below is one instance of the outrage over rap lyrics from the website.

Criticism of Gangsta Rap (broken link)

Reprinted from the web site of the
National Congress of Black Women

NCBW continues its high-visibility campaign against the entertainment industry’s glorification of violence, misogyny, drugs and pornography. Dr. Tucker and the NCBW’s Entertainment Commission have taken the battle from the retail level into the boardrooms of giant corporate backers like Seagrams and Time-Warner – with tangible results.

After NCBW’s sidewalk protest (above), Time-Warner canceled its planned release of “Smack my B– Up.” Last year, Time- Warner’s CEO cited “dramatic changes in the music industry as a result of the concerns of Dr. C. DeLores Tucker and others” in telling his stockholders the company would no longer market music that “glorifies violence, promotes race hatred, denigrates women and encourages drug abuse.”

In the case of Seagrams, after protests by Dr. Tucker and NCBW, the company ceased distributing Interscope’s Death Row Records, and their shock rocker Marilyn Manson faded from the limelight. Now the fight continues against Interscope’s new French owner, Vivendi, and against today’s even worse lyrics typified by gansta/porno rapper Eminem, whose recent Grammy awards were denounced by NCBW.

Wow!!!

Lets see,the dreaded'N' word has beeen being used for over 20 years in rap lyrics and we have this absolute flood of outrage....

Sorry, the hypocrisy of those who find it outrageous for one racial group to use a word but ignore the continued use by another is simmply too great.

Perhaps if people WERE more willing to condemn everyone who uses the word there might be some substance to their outrage.

Slightly off topic,is it okay to use such terms as 'redneck', 'hick', 'hillbilly' and 'white trash'?

Do those terms illicit the same outrage?

Or is this one of those 'white guilt' type situations?

They never seemed obligated to apologize for that.
Nobody forced Dog to apologize. If he's a racist so be it, he just needs to stick by what he said then. He's the one that decided to punk out and go on an apology tour.

BTW, since when has refraining from insulting people become PC? this is not a matter of being PC or unPC. If I called someone's mother a drug addicted wh*re, that's not me simply being unPC. That's me being insulting and disrespectful.

Did you even bother to read the website? There was outrage over rap lyrics before the Imus flap. You were the one that was questioning whether there was outrage over rap lyrics or not. I provided you with a couple of instances of it but that's not good enough for you. Now you're just being silly..

An interesting Al Sharpton quote to the audience at Kean College....

“White folks was in caves while we was building empires ... We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it.”

His use of the term 'Diamond merchants' when discussing Jews is interesting too.

Sad thing is people seem to accept Sharpton as a black leader.

I know of the very recent 'outrage' over rap lyrics, the thing is the dreaded 'N' word ahs been in use for 20 years in rap and no-one seemed outraged enough to demand apologies from those using it.

As I have stated,it has more to do with the color of the person's skin than the word and people for whatever reason will give a pass to black people using the word.

I have found modern Americans are deathly afraid of offending others, even if it means they have to have a double standard in place.

It is simply PC foolishness running out of control.

Yes especially the media. Most blacks folks I know, myself included, don't consider Sharpton to be our leader nor take him seriously. If there was no outrage over what Sharpton said it's not black folks fault. Since Sharpton insulted white and Jewish people, they ought to be the ones that are outraged and protesting him. Don't blame us for the media's lack of attention to your noisemakers. You ought to be glad they don't pay attention unless you want David Duke to be considered a "leader" for white folks. Or maybe Ann Coulter or Micheal Savage would be a better fit.

I believe it might have something to do with fearing being labeled...if a person dared to point out that black people are just as racist as white they would become outcasts.

It is of course the truth but that doesn't seem to matter.

Not being born here it is quite amazing how society will ignore the doubel standards for fear of being labeled.

Myself,I couldn't care less if I offend another person by speaking the truth.

To OZ in SC
You seem to be looking for some type of forum fight or trolling.
First of all my point was that the N word is unacceptable for ANYONE to use, black or white and only Ni@@ers would refer to themselves or someone else as such.

The blacks that are usually ignored by the media (hard working, honest, educated, etc.)
have been critics of gansta rap since it's inception, however because we are ignored by the media untill a black person commits a crime you won't see much media coverage of us fighting against this type of music. The issue is always a topic among black people.

You missed my point. I shall try again.
Rosie makes claims that go beyond stupid about socalled conspiracies. Basicly saying that 3000+ people died to give GWB an excuse. She had no compassion for the families of those who died trying rescue the victims on 911, or the soldiers and civilians who died in the pentegon... No apology because its politicly correct to Bash Bush
Sean Penn with his rants> No apologies to the many offended.
John Kerry no apologies
The list is endless of people who felt it okay to bash christians for being christians.. But don't anybody say a thing about Muslems or Jews.
Its okay to trash whites in general, using terms like Cracker, or redneck but don't anybody not ever slip with the N word.
Its gotten to the point that if I compliment someone for being articulate that ir automaticly = a racist comment
I dont like dog and have no respect for him, never did because he is in fact white trash. An embarrassment.. He apologized so what....
I want apologies from the celebs that call our troops jack booted storm troopers, nazi's and war criminals....
Some have committed crimes less than 1% out all who have served.. An apology is owed.
