Joe Biden was a Senator for over 35 years, and served most of that time on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, including a stint as chair. He's forgot more about foreign policy than most people in Washington will ever know. Smart presidential candidates look for a VP that will strengthen their campaign--either people from a certain area that will pull in voters from that region, or people with experience and skills that round out the areas where the candidate may have less experience. Obama needed a foreign policy wiz, and despite what some of you seem to think about Joe Biden, he really is an expert in that field. He knows and understands just as much or more on foreign policy than any other person in the country.

According to Game Change it was wholly Obama's choice. At one point Obama complained that his advisors were not throwing out any names for VP. Rahm Emanuel replied that they weren't because they all know that he had decided on Biden.

All that nonsense proves is that the good folks of Deleware aren't too bright.

Very logical answer.

Vice Presidents are insurance policies?

Probably so.

If you think back to the 2008 election, Obama was cast by his opponents as a elitist liberal Harvard lawyer with no experience when it comes to foreign policy.

Biden was chosen bolster the ticket in those regards. Biden was viewed as an "every man's" senator: blue-collar Scranton family background; probably the poorest US senator; commuted to his senate job by train for decades. He also is very, very strong on foreign policy. He was on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for decades and was its Chairperson. He was also an influential member of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Terrorism and Homeland Security.

Except that a lot of that garbage is a figment of his imagination. Like he infamously ate every day at that restaurant that come to find out had been closed for years and years.

The guy is a liar and a buffoon, not to mention just plain butt stupid.

It also proves that for over 30 years Republicans and Democrats in Washington have relied on his expertise to keep us from letting our mouth over burden our a$$.
