1,000,000 gallons of fuel? That's 5 days worth for just the Marines in Afghanistan. (military, leader)

A whole 5 days. Neat.

Interesting .pdf on how the Marines are going green.
“Our generators typically use more than 20 gallons of fuel a day. We are down to 2.5 gallons a day,” said Doty, 3rd Squad Leader, with1st Platoon, ‘I’ Company, and Fulton, Mo., native. “The system works amazing. By saving fuel for generators, it has cut back on the number of convoys, meaning less opportunity for one of our vehicles to hit an IED.”

The Army found 1 person was killed or wounded for every 24 fuel convoys. Going greener saves lives.
I thought of making a thread about this... there is some political irony in the fact that one of the largest and most enthusiastic supporters for the potential of alternative / clean tech is the US military.
The fuel refiners, suppliers, haulers and owners are not going to be happy with this development. After all petroleum is nothing but a dirty mess unless you can sell it at a profit.
It's pretty funny to read this, then hear the screams of the people who are against going green but say they support the military.
If they really supported the military they would support going greener as much as the military itself does.
Compartmentalization and cognitive dissidence is kind of fun to watch.
Since there is no magic alternative energy source,I support the downsizing of the empire as a much more immediate and realistic goal in conserving resources.
What say you?
