Disability benefits program for federal workers reported rife with waste. Many cases of apparently healthy young federal workers feasting at the disability trough. One ran marathons while collecting disability. Another hauled in $142,000 in disability payments for a neck injury – all while buying a boat called "Free Ride," travelling the world, doing trapeze flips on a Club Med vacation and enjoying snow skiing and scuba diving.

Yep, they defrauded the system and got caught...and were sentenced for their crime.
You'd rather cut off a program for everyone because the it was abused?
Would you shut down a company because a few people there committed fraud?
Rampant is the word that concerns me and it should concern everyone. Would I end a program due to rampant fraud? That would depend upon if it could be fixed or needed to be scrapped entirely. At the very least this program needs some major repair work.
Most of these jerks get caught. That is a proper result of defrauding the rest of us.
What makes you geniuses think that private industry is not defrauded by their employees? Ever really look at an executive's expense account? Lots of hundred dollar lunches and dinners. So long as they make the sales the accounts will be paid.
In 2011 (last year for which I could find statistics) there were 4.4 million "federal" employees. About half of those were military, the other half civilian.
I wonder what the rate of fraudulent disability claims is as a percentage of total employees as compared to similar fraudulent complaint experience of private employers such as, say, Wal Mart which has 2.2 million employees (worldwide, I'm assuming).
Color me stunned... a federal employee violating the public trust????
And you think that this is the only case? You are very naive. Of course you didn't look at the article title either. Experts say fraud rampant in federal worker disability program
