Updated 6/16 at 11:15 a.m. PT The original headline when the story was published on Saturday was "NSA admits listening to U.S. phone calls without warrants," which was changed to "NSA spying flap extends to contents of U.S. phone calls," to better match the story. The first paragraph was changed to add attribution to Rep. Nadler. ....
James Owens, a spokesman for Nadler, provided a statement on Sunday morning, a day after this article was published, saying: "I am pleased that the administration has reiterated that, as I have always believed, the NSA cannot listen to the content of Americans' phone calls without a specific warrant." Owens said he couldn't comment on what assurances from the Obama administration Nadler was referring to, and said Nadler was unavailable for an interview. (CNET had contacted Nadler for comment on Friday.)
So the participant who said the quoted text has backed off from the statement.
"The National Security Agency has acknowledged in a new classified briefing that it does not need court authorization to listen to domestic phone calls, a participant said."
Says the same thing and it is a direct contradiction to what Obama himself even said. We were told that they NEED WARRANTS to do this. It turns out they don't and you agree with them.

He didn't lie. You do need a warrant for a specific person.
What they didn't tell us was that they could get a court order for blanket data gathering.
It's not what they tell you; it's what they don't tell you.
And within the past few days these tech companies are releasing the number of warrants they got from local, state, national agencies.
They haven't mentioned "court orders from the NSA" though.
And it doesn't seem the MSM is even picking up on that.

He lied. They ARE listening to calls at their whim. If they don't need a warrant, what is stopping them?

Who is going to stop the government ? The government ?
We're screwed, royally screwed.

That's my point. We were told differently, that's a lie. I knew from the beginning that they were doing this. This doesn't surprise me one bit. Time to give up the social networking and cell phones. They do nothing but distract and make people dumber. If you don't want to give up your cell phone, take the battery out of it and only use it for when you really need to.

I don't think Obama lied because of the way he worded it.
Now Clapper did lie. The question was "Are you collecting data on all Americans ?"
He said "no".
Now he's redefining the word "collecting" to the world.
I don't do social networking.
Never had a smart phone..just flippy phone for calling and no texting features.
Nowadays the phone companies only have 1 or 2 models to choose from.
I was the one who was "paranoid".
And my family teased me that I was "Amish"
Now I'm the one who's saying "I told ya so."

Obama lied and we ALL know it. He said, "nobody is listening to your calls". Didn't we just find out differently? So, if he didn't lie and they are not LISTENING, then they MUST be collecting the call contents and READING them, not LISTENING. Either way, what he said was a lie, if you want to get Clinton like and say, "well, he didn't say READING". Then have at it, it's as dishonest as one could be about it, but that's how lawyers operate.

Sorry, I must have missed that statement from him. I recall one where he said warrant.
Yes, it's a huge play on words and collusion with the MSM to put the right spin on it.
The secret meetings with the press must be education sessions for them.

I'm with you. I have a flip phone, which does have texting capability. Texting can come in handy, but I'm of the thought that a phone's primary function should be, ohhh I don't know... to make phone calls! My wife had a droid, which had a ton of bells and whistles. That is all well and good, but the only thing it didn't do well was what it's primary function, and that was MAKING AND RECEIVING PHONE CALLS!!!
