It's always newsworthy when an African American politician throws off the shackles of liberalism to embrace the American dream, individualism, and personal responsibility.
With, as your link states, a RETURN to the GOP.
A healthy dose of hatred leaving the Dems.
A-OK by me.

Doubtful.
Most people against religion were usually raised religious.
We learned our lesson and throw off the shackles of religious hatred and bigotry.
We have no need to believe in fairy tales.
Apparently, others do have the need.
Pfft. Who gives a rat's behind? Both parties are the same. Neither one has any real power and neither has any interest serving the American people.
National politicians from BOTH parties are bought, sold and owned by special interest groups--the people who actually make the rules and run things: multinational CEOs, heads of global banks and energy concerns, and lobbyists.
All this "Us vs. Them, Dem vs. Repub" BS is mere window-dressing and distraction used to pull the wool over the eyes of useful idiots who are deluded enough to think that one party is preferable to another. It's a joke. They are laughing at you while they screw us all.
I think it's more a function of the fact that moderates no longer have a place in today's extremist Democrat Party. Look what happened to Bob Casey and Joe Lieberman. Either you tow the far left extremist line or you're branded a tea party racist by the leftist goons. Happens daily on this forum too.
My other response got deleted because I guess the mods were too dense to understand the point I was making, so allow me to rephrase it.
THE REPUBLICANS ARE MUCH WORSE IN THIS REGARD THAN THE DEMOCRATS ARE.
Is that clear and on-topic enough?
Seriously though, a guy like Christie is considered a RINO by most Repubs. Meanwhile, most Dems would welcome him into the party. Same with Huntsman. Those guys are true moderates, and the Dems seem to be the only ones embracing them.
Today's GOP is big-government is almost every conceivable fashion: not only do they want the government dictating what people can and can't do with their own bodies, they also always expand the size and scope of government every time they hold power...
Socially conservative/religious loons + big government spending = today's modern conservative.
100% correct. And these people are moronic enough to consider themselves "conservative." They have no clue about history, nor do they even know what "conservative" means.
The Republican Party jettisoned conservativism back before the Disco Era. The policies and administrations of the last three Repub presidents we've had have been 180 degrees away from--completely antithetical to--actual conservative principles.
GOP now is just a huge, nanny-state, big government, Big Brother mess.
That's not giving the worthless, incompetent Democrats a pass either. I dislike them equally, but at least they haven't let complete loonybat imbeciles take over the entire party. Yet.
Great news, may it foretell a new age for the vast majority of African Americans, who automatically vote Democrat to the tune of 95%.
The brother is delusional if he thinks that the repub party is going to be any better. Frederick Douglass wouldn't recognize today's repub party. The repubs most likely offered him a few perks (and majority status), so he went for it. Hope that he enjoys being trotted out at election time when they're trying to show their "diversity" as their token Uncle Tom.
This wise and honorable man speak a truth that millions of black Americans need to hear.
Considering the Gillroy switched from the Republican Party to the Democrats in 2007 only to switch back in 2013 won't impress many black voters. Just white Republicans looking for the next black knight du jour.

My goodness. He flip-flops more than Willard Romney!
