I find it strange that some so called "heterosexual" individuals are preoccupied with gay issues.

As a straight man I don't spend too much time thinking about issues relating to the gay community.

I find interesting that some straight individuals spend so much time and effort focusing on gays, and I was wondering what is the psychology behind this?

Abraham Lincoln wasn't a slave. Why was he preoccupied with ending slavery? Dum-de-dum, I wonder why!

Also, why the unnecessary quotes around "straight?" Do you jest?

Maybe they feel it's like a tanned, blond woman getting a hairdo with cornrows, listening to rap music, while reading a copy of Ebony magazine, and claiming that this made her into a black woman?

I think preoccupied/obsessed might be a bit too strong but did you also find Americans believing the Berlin Wall should fall strange?

What is it you find strange about the belief that every citizen of a country should enjoy the same basic level of protected rights?

Perhaps they're afraid of being "recruited?" If that is the case, then they really need to do some soul searching as to who and what they really are.

Maybe you should ask anyone who goes to any random website and starts thread after thread after thread after thread about the topic.

I support gay rights, but to be honest, I don't think about them or gay issues on a daily basis.

I'm talking about people who think about them constantly.

I suppose you could have asked the same question of whites who put their lives on the line (some were even murdered) in the 50s and 60s to join the fight for civil rights even though they were not the ones being denied their rights.

The answer then, as now, is the same. It's the right thing to do.

I worry that if the society can surpress and persecute people for being gay they will find something to persecute me for being or doing. I prefer the society leave both the gays and me to our own ways.
