Anyone remember when this administration claimed it was only seeking to intercept communications to the US from foreign nations? Well now I am sure some are shocked to find out that it may not have been the whole truth.

I figured this was happening all along so I am not surprised that this was being done or that the administration lied about it. I wonder if ATT has some legal liability for breaking the implied confidentiality of its communication systems. After all ATT could put in another splice and listen in on a competitor's conversations.

Not surprising at all. I actually believe spying has been going on illegally and heavily by the CIA and NSA since they were formed. Bush just had the audacity to try and make it a commonplace, accepted practice while pushing it to much higher levels than before.

Sooooooooooo somebody makes a claim and thus it is fact? How about I claim the individual in question was a slacker and was fired for company theft. In retaliation he invented this story? Does this mean its fact? NO.
No evidence= yet another B.S story.
If big brother is monitering the internet traffic of known supporters of terrorism .good. If they are monitoring phone calls made to known terrorists orginizations and supporters. good. If they monitor all the above to known orginized crime figures. good.
I really don't care if they monitor my internet use or phone calls because I know who I call on my phone. I know who I email. I dont consort with criminals or terrorists. I dont down load porn of any kind. In short there are no skeletons in my closets. Criminals need to fear a great deal, honest people need only fear criminals.

Well it is confirmed he did work there as an engineer who designed and installed the spitter and switching equipment. Being a career engineer in the telecommunications industry he did retired and was not fired, I think his story, credibility and assertions can be easily verified at the very least.

Now I understand how many people can say, well let the government tap the phones, monitor all the internet traffic, etc... because I am doing nothing wrong. However, you may not be doing anything wrong at the moment, but tomorrow just coming to this web forum may be deemed unacceptable and subversive. In addition, you may not be talking to any terrorist, but what if your buddy was and you didn't know it. Well under things like the Rico act, you are just as guilty for merely associating with him. Didn't have any knowledge of these people, well we don't believe you and we will waterboard you until you tell us you did only to release a statement the following day as to how you admitted to doing things you had no knowledge of.

Ridiculous, maybe, maybe not, but it is because the potential for abuse exist that we must make sure that the rule of law and the guaranteed rights of every American citizen is assured above all else. Chances are the worst case scenario will not happen, but I for one don't wish to even take that chance.

Is not there already a lawsuit on-gong about this?

And is there not already legistlation either being written or now in place to give ATT a pass?

There is not much arguing that this an established activity -- just a question if (yet again) the sheeple all just say "baahhh."

Probably the RIAA looking for people downloading music, i'm only half joking. If you saw what they did to find illegal downloaders you would be shocked.

I'm more afraid of them then the NSA.

So the man worked there. So he was an engineer who retired. I work with engineers where I work too. LOL Not all of them are reliable when it comes to the truth. engineers like any other profession have there share of nut cases. That engineer who started the theory that the twin towers were a controled drop for example....
Could be this person is a bit disturbed and is looking for attention on a hot topic.
The point is they are not watching every single citizen. The resourses required alone would make it next to impossible. They are watching individuals with questionable backgrounds and associates. They are watching wire transfers to countries known to either support or enable terrorism. How many people would be alive today if they paid attention to such things before 9/11? Perhaps 1 if not 2 wars could have been avoided. Well 1 anyway.
Our founding fathers could not possibly have conceived of what todays world looks like. I doubt they would have even blinked over the use of the death penalty, They roll in their graves when it comes to our tax policies.
I hear what you are saying and 20 years ago would have agreed completely.
Tell me what do you think our fore fathers would have thought of todays politicians in washington? I would bet their heads would hang in shame.
