I'm sorry..I thought being able to "conceive" children is a very distinct and fundamental difference between a homosexual couple and heterosexual couple.
So what, that is not the basis of marriage. Is that all you got married for, to reproduce. Many straigth couples never reproduce and some cannot reproduce. So reproduction is not required for marriage nor for the rights. Gay people can too conceive, gay men are fertile and so are lesbians. We are not stupid, we know that two men or two women cannot conceive together, but so do a sterile couple who marries, but they are not denied marriage, so obviously, saying we cannot conceive, so should not be allowed to marry is bogus and no real reason to deny us marriage. Fundamentally, Yes, homosexuals can conceive, so honestly, we are not different other than the sex of the person we are attracted to,
Still does not work, dude. Sterile couples cannot conceive, they are allowed marriage. And having your own offspring is not required, that is why people adopt.
You don't need marriage for that, so it's kind of besides the point.
Two strangers off the street can conceive mutual offspring. SO amazing!
You have just stated the primary reason why marriage is so important, even when couples do not want children, their sexual activities create them anyway.
We as a people put a lot of effort into trying to convince as many sexually active adults to get married, and stay married, so they can raise their children. We do not want this double digit out of wedlock birth rate, it's destroying our society.
It's just one of the fundamental differences between gay marriage and traditional marriage, we are not motivated to get gay men to marry, out of concerns they might accidentally create babies out of wedlock. We do not worry that two gay men, who live together, will create a child that neither man wanted nor expected.
TENDENCY - so they tend to lean that way - and they keep this leaning hidden? Human beings are leaning all over the place it seems these days. These studies usually have a hidden agenda and are sometimes conducted by people who want the world to be a certain way that they see ideal in THEIR minds.
Recently in Toronto our openly lesbian Premier of Ontario ...just had one of her male staff members arrested - He and she were in charge for a period of the sex education programs in our elementary schools. This goof was charged with the making of and the possession of child pornography. I wonder what this expert expects from children who he is in effect education...Is he expecting kids to to develop a "tendency" to lean in the direction he would like to see normalized? Just makes you think of what is going on in the minds of experts and those who conduct studies.
Being attracted to attractive people does not designate homosexuality...but I guess some people wish it did.
Who gives a hoot. So you can conceive, big friggin deal. A sterile straight couple cannot physiologically conceive, why are they allowed to marry?
Because it's rare for a man and woman couple to be sterile. The norm is men and women make babies, so stop trying to dumb down the discussion. Procreation is the overriding, fundamental difference. What is normal between men and women is impossible between gays.

My wife died 9 weeks ago from an unexpected illness and while I am not ready to look for Mrs. No 2 just yet, she will be likely post menopause. Why is my need for companionship with an opposite sex partner more profound than that of a gay or lesbian couple? (Irrelevant here in SA as LBGTs have full rights) I am past the procreation sell by date yet may well marry to share a life together and join assets etc.
Common just be honest and tell us WHY my situation is a differential?

Nope. What purpose is "wedlock" for the children? Your social engineering goals, notwithstanding. I know of a couple that refuses to get married, and have been together for years and years... but a home together, and have recently started a family together. Is theirs any less legitimate a family? Are their children harmed in some way?
Forcing people to be together for the "sake of the children" who shouldn't be together is a proven recipe for disaster.
It is of course best for people to be responsible, and only have children with people that they are committed to raising children with. But, we live in the real world.
Marriage is no longer "for the children." It's for adults. An entire separate body of law concerns children from that which concerns marriage.
