"Germany has canceled a decades-old agreement on information-sharing with Britain and the United States, in the wake of controversy sparked by American leaker Edward Snowden's disclosures about mass surveillance programs."

Germany ends information sharing pact with Britain, United States - CNN.com

This why totalitarian regimes eventually fall. Their allies with a moral compass stop working with them. Their citizens with a moral compass begin to defect and share information with the government's enemies or rivals. And the people generally lose faith and support in government. Hold on America, history is about to show you that it's always right.

A gesture that Germany knows is merely symboilic because the U.S. is already getting the information it wants through it's electronic spying in any case.

The far more damaging aspect is the relationship degradation that will almost certainly accelerate under this type of climate.

The perceived "bully-like" tactics do nothing to enhance international relations. This could culminate in an incident of required co-operation being of paramount importance to prevent a cataclysmic event from happening going without address due to: "sorry, we took it for granted you aleady knew about the situation as you're tapped into every network in the world anyway." "We would have been glad to provide you with intel or other assistance had we any idea you weren't busily evesdropping that particular day."

You reap what you sow.

Germany's citizens are extremely upset over this. And with Germany's history who can blame them.

Germany is the poster child for what spying on your own citizens can lead to.
The Holocaust didn't get planned in one day you know.

And the US is no better with their rounding up of Japanese American citizens and putting them into internment camps.
We stopped short of executing them.

I addressed that in my quote.

You might actually need their co-operation some day and it will not be as forthcoming as it has been in the past.

The days of you simply saying they need us more than we need them are OVER.

The majority of Americans don't realize that yet.
You can't be "top dog" forever and it's starting to show globally.

Rick, we are full aware of your dislike of the president but this has been going on way before he was even a senator. If snowden had not spilled the beans on the whole thing the next president whould have gotten the same flack as this one.
