He's being called on to boycott the Olympics by many rights groups... he responded with his reasons why he thinks it's a bad idea while also pointing out his support for all American athlete's. You guys are really stretching to turn this into something it's not.

He can support all of America's athletes without specifically hoping that a gay athlete wins a medal.

Many (most) countries in the world do not favor homosexuality. So let it be.
That is a quickly changing trend and FYI...it is a human rights issue and should be treated as such. Russia is advocating for punishment for homosexuals and are blatantly ignoring the abuses that gays are enduring by homophobes in Russia. This is being very puposefully done as Putin panders to neo-conservatives.
You weren't discussing Russia, you said that "unless you are in Russia, then gay athletes are not on an equal level".
That would imply that you think that gay athletes are not on an equal level outside of Russia, presumably in the United States, given the nature of this thread.
