Has anyone noticed this trend? It has been going on for some years now. Apparently, some black men blame black women for the stagnation of our community.

I've heard some of Tommy Sotomayor's stuff. Some of the things he has said is true, but the way it comes off, it has alot of hatred in it. The stuff about weave, and other things. I do agree that it is better not to wear weave. The way he puts it, it sounds very hateful. And at the same time, there are alot of hatred towards him.

Exactly

What is wrong with wearing weave? Isn't it just another cosmetic practice? How is it self hate?

I don't see how wearing a weave can destroy a community...

Hmmm. Surprised at this as I was when I learned that light and dark skinned black people sometimes tease each other unmercifully. Some even hate when the skin of another African-American is more white.

Interesting dynamic.

I look at weave like this. Black women wearing their natural hair, that is not ugly at all. Nothing ugly about it. I notice, however, the weave being put on resembles nothing of a Black woman's hair texture. Most likely, it resembles the very opposite. I have never seen a White woman(or any non-Black person for that matter) wear a weave, wig, or hair extensions that resembles a Black person's hair. In fact, the only time I ever see something like that is on Halloween, and that is being done to mock Black people.

It's gonna get worse before it gets better IMHO. Especially with more and more real light skin "Black" people saying they're flat out "anglo white" AND still own up to their Black ancestors. Too, the younger Black ladies; even the dark skin ones are saying "enough" and are bettering themselves to take care of business.

I think in about 10 to 20 years from now people; Black or not, will start looking back and maybe even laugh at what's being talked about in this thread.

Agreed. I saw some pics of Black ladies with the big Afros from 40 years ago and they looked quite nice.

It's colorism, and this goes back a long time ago. Look up "brown bag" parties.

It's nice stuff. And a Black woman doesn't even need to have an afro to be proud of her natural hair.
