NEW ALBANY, Indiana (CNN) -- President Bush vetoed a $600 billion spending bill Tuesday, accusing Democratic leaders of wasting money and plotting tax increases, then took his budget fight with Congress on the road.
Meanwhile it looks like the cost of the Iraq war so far is actually twice what we have been told, $1.5 Trillion instead of the $800 Billion Bush claims.
I think the question of who is wasting money depends on your point of view.
Did we need a sailing school? Did we need a prison museum? Any bill loaded with pork should be vetoed.
If a state wants to build a museum fine. Let that state find a way to pay for it.
If a city wants a sailing school fine let them find their own way of paying for it.
Line item veto would be a beautiful thing.
I'm glad they're fighting over the budget finally. Bush practically had a blank check for his first six years in office, and all that money he spent is directly related to the fact that our dollar is now at a record low against the euro.
I was a huge supporter of Bush when he first was elected, but I've grown to realize he's probably the most fiscally irresponsible president we've ever had. Unfortunately, he's raised the bar somewhatnow, so even if the next president is a democrat I have my doubts about whether or not we'll finally get the budget under control.
