Dear Fellows

I have come to the conclusion that the combination of desire will and direction to fix the problems people are facing around the globe are not winnable. Why at this point do I say this? Growing up in the 60's when people filled the streets and brought a war to a stop...now wars are cheered and the Generals label them as video games. The political culture has migrated to desire power and control over any results which would actually benefit the everyday Joe and Mary. Religion has become an unspoken war (more than 3K killed in Iraq) since the beginning of the year. Shiite on Sunni, Assad, Egypt, look around the waters around America are boiling.

Then there is Fukushima. Millions of gallons spilling into the ocean. The 2012 movie script is here, but in a form much more different than envisioned. Good people going about their good lives largely unaware until another shooting at another school at another town. And....no new legislation...the gun lobby rightly or wrongly stops all in their tracks and congress elites living in paradise flying home to stoke the machines of content....and the dancing ball keeps on blinking in the consumers eyes for more and more and more.

None of these problems are fixable. It's up to us to make sense of the reality just outside the door of despair and outside the window of consumerism. Possible? The other shore is not far away.

Stay low, enjoy each day and drive safely.

i disagree with your conclusion, these problems are all fixable, but we as a people have to put forth the effort to fix the problems. and one thing that has to happen is that we end the tyranny of the hardliners regardless of who they are. hardline terrorists, church leaders, politicians, etc. that is the part that is going to be virtually impossible to do, but it CAN be done.

Your conclusion doesn't follow as rbohm stated. Globalization will hopefully calm our social issues hopefully and disasters happen, we learn from them. Even if true, that our problems cannot be fixed, that would give us no good reason to stop trying.
