Why are we still in Afghanistan? Why is it O.K. for us to kill innocent women and children there when we can't even get an answer as to why we are there?
Like the defense putting the defendant on the stand, Putin has opened himself up to some very sharp and articulate media feedback. Putin, like all bullies, eventually become so overconfident they suffer defeat.
Just hope the incoherent Obama doesn't direct the response.
EXACTLY!
No one in the thinking world gives Putin more credibility than he deserves. In this issue he took a higher road but now squanders that currency in taking that last cheap shot to the cojones after the ref has stepped in to separate the fighters.
He's riding the crest of a wave that will eventually reach shore and collapse.
Leaders (especially the bellicose ones) need to learn when to keep their trap shut and pass over the obvious opening for another cut of the rapier.
Obama should stay out of this and a curt response to the probing press should simply be something like comparing the human rights records of BOTH countires should be more than sufficient for anyone seriously studying the issue.
Putins blog was a propaganda piece directed at American readers, but based on the reader comments it blew up on his face. Americans are basically saying F-U. Only the partisan fringe, and the closet commies in US celebrate Putins words.
Pootie-Poot, as Bush nicknamed him, sees Obama as weak, and is taking advantage of it. The weaker Obama is seen, the stronger Putin hopes it might make him. Sadly, Obama is so inept he is making this easy.

I am amazed that you have such a depth of insight into Putin's mind.

Few believe that Putin took this position because he wants to be the next Mother Theresa. We can no longer go around bombing other countries just because we can though.
I suppose you can define it as you wish. You can even say that you are not actually supporting Putin but that you agree with what he said.
For some now, that means you hate your country. When someone is right, they are right.
Obama does not have support from anyone, not the world, not his own people, and not our congress. so some of the comments being made by Putin sounded diplomatic and sincere, and most people agreed with them. He well may have been insincere and lying his ass off, but he was taking on the role of peacemaker, while Obama was only beating the drums of war, looking arrogant, irresponsible and half-cocked.
For you lefties out there, agreeing with a peaceful proposal by Putin, does not mean support for Putin, all it means is his is the only voice of reason.
Obama was a dumbass, drew some arbitrary "line in the sand," and got in over his head.
Putin offered Obama a conduit with which he could "stand down," and avoid looking like an even bigger dumbass, and preventing himself from possibly starting a regional conflict.
It's a win-win. Why is everyone bitching? We may now avoid another Middle East war, and all it took was for Putin (of all people), to play the part of "voice-of-reason."
Yes, Obama may look bad, but who cares, at least he checked his ego at the door long enough to avoid the war.
