What is there not to believe in the idea that bombing would accomplish nothing?

And It doesn't matter. When Putin speaks other countries take him seriously. When Obama speaks, not so much. The U.S. president should be able to handle it and be strong regardless. That's what a "commander in chief" is supposed to do. With Obama as president we may as well be 3rd world.

Obama wants to go against the world, only France is with us. Obama needs to learn that the world do not have nose rings or the liberal media leading them around.

World War III started by Obama.

It's a win-win. Why is everyone bitching? We may now avoid another Middle East war, and all it took was for Putin (of all people), to play the part of "voice-of-reason."

Yes, Obama may look bad, but who cares, at least he checked his ego at the door long enough to avoid the war.
If POTUS hadn't threatened credible military response, does anyone believe Russia and Syria would be coming forward now? Not a rehtorical question, but I really do not expect an answer.

Obama, Putin previously discussed plan to secure Syria chemical arms

Quote:
U.S. and Russian officials confirmed Tuesday that they have had discussions about securing Syria’s chemical arms going back months, including in a meeting between Presidents Obama and Putin at the G-20 summit last week, and that the idea was not born out of a stray comment made by US Secretary of State John Kerry at a London press conference Monday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that he and President Obama had “indeed discussed” the idea during a meeting on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia last week.

Obama and Putin, meeting in a corner for 20-30 minutes last Friday (Sept. 5), “agreed that a political solution is ultimately necessary to resolve the civil war, but we continue to have differences about Assad’s role in that transition,” a senior US administration official said Tuesday. “However, they did agree that we could cooperate on the issue of chemical weapons – specifically, an effort to secure [chemical weapons] stockpiles, as both the US and Russia believe that they pose a significant danger, within Syria and beyond.”

I do not think anyone lost or won; just because an idea, or situation comes up, and someone thus reacts to it, does not mean the person lost, or the other person won.

Obama had a proposal, new developments happened, and Obama reacted to these developments, end of story. Now only if Congress could stop playing the stubborn three year old regarding every single domestic situation.

Russia has a lot more at stake than just weapon sales and a port; a radical Islamic take over of Syria would put radical Islam on a straight transit zone through Turkey to Russia, something Russia does not want. This would be like a radical Islamic state all of a suddeny appearing in Central America, with a straight shot through Mexico.

I have no idea why Putin would write this opinion piece, seems childish to do.

No countries take Putin seriously, especially when he starts philosophizing about democratic principles. His constituents and the media take him very seriously, don't want to end up in jail for offering some minor criticism.

Pointing out that some countries believe in the ban on use of weapons of mass destruction such as chemical weapons and will punish any Nation that uses them. I still find it strange that so many here do not seem to get the very simple point. Does this Nation really stand by our principles or is it simply nothing more than lip service, if it is the later then expect more use of such weapons around the world and do not complain when they are used on us and they will be.

If the world completely ignored this last gas attack, Syria would not be discussing handing over its WMDs.

Here is another question for you. If, after his 'red line' speech, Obama had spent the last year, as Bush did with Iraq, using the diplomatic route and lobbying the UN for weapons inspectors, and we saw this latest gas attack, do you think we might be seeing a more detailed and acceptable UN controlled turnover of all of Assad's WMDs?

I wasn't one of them. I believe in swift and harsh action on any Nation that uses such weapons, if I were Obama I would not have waited more than 24hrs before striking Syria for their war crime, they knew there could be a reaction and now he is getting away with it, the President did not need anyones approval to do it and it would be past history at this point.

Thank God we have Putin to tell us how to run our country. Hopefully we all heed his words of wisdom and can one day aspire to have an average male life expectancy of 64, a murder rate three times the rate the US has now, a per capita GDP 25% of what we have now, and rampant alcoholism.
